Stats to use

I'll be flexible here, but my preference would be to either use a 5x5 "standard" roto format (.avg, HR, RBI, SB, R for hitters, and ERA, WHIP, WINS, S, Ks for pitchers) or, even better, use a more comprehensive set of stats. One league I've been in uses:

OBP
Runs
Doubles + Triples
HR
RBI
Net Steals
Errors

and

Net Wins
ERA
WHIP
Ks
Saves

Would be nice if bases on balls for hitters counted for someting (e.g., use OBP, not .AVG) and if doubles and triples counted. Plus caught-stealing was a negative, and losses hurt a pitcher.

But, whatever the commish wants to use, I'll play by

once we settle the roto/points/h2h debate we'll pick categories, there us a logical order to this :)

standard 5x5.
we don't need to get pointlessly esoteric.

My Own Quote

]I found that stat wise including triples for batters and complete games for pitchers made it much more interesting because they were kinda rare occurances compared to other stats.

And some weeks a complete game decided a tiebreaker situation catagory wise.
Some weeks no one got a complete game.

I found the more stats the more interesting it was. One of my leagues had minimal stats, just the biggys (like hits/homers/wins/Ks-no doubles or triples, innings pitched, shutout, etc) and it was okay, but not as exciting.

Ill check the way my brother set his up.
I didnt mention shutouts up there but that was another kool one.
And a complete game non-shutout may have been the rarest stat of all, which simply fell under the complete game catagory.
But those two, more than not, went hand in hand.

Im down for whatever you decide here.

In general, I think we need to make sure that pitchers & the offense have the same number of stats counted--it keeps things balanced.

Errors are always tricky, because they don't actually reward good defenders and you can't really strategize around it, unlike other "meaningless" stats like Runs, RBI & SVs.

5x5 is fine by me, although I'm fond of the following as well:

OBP / SLG / R / RBI / SB / CS / K
ERA /WHIP/ K / nSV/ nW / BB / HR

i'm definetaly opposed to counting offensive strikeouts as a category, and caught stealing shouldnt be one either....better to just use "net steals" (steals - caught stealings) as one category, if you want them to count. pitcher walks are redundant with WHIP so cut that along with batter k's.

i'd prefer to just go 5x5 as its what everyone is familiar with...if not everyone still has to realize that in a roto league you cant just have categories "out of nowhere" like shutouts, triples, etc because they'd count evenly with things like runs and era, which doesnt sound like fun to me.

What are the final decisions about # of players, bench, stat categories?

1 DL-ouch.
I thought the survey said 2.

".....Survey says!------------2!"

I guess one will have to do.
Make for more forced moves roster wise.
