metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Any idea what this cover means,it's from June 1992..anyone here remember this?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 She seems to be wearing fatigues for shirt sleeves. The only Met I can think of that that would seeemingly refer to is Randy Myers, but he was long gone by 1992.Fopr some reason, I think there's a Frank Viola reference going on, but he would also be gone. That was a terrible season.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 Bill Pulsipher also wore fatigues.Later
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 I don't think there was more going on than that good old New Yorker whimsy. I saved that cover. Still have it here somewhere.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2005 Author Posted November 9, 2005 Yeah I think you are right Greg..baseball covers are a tradition at the New Yorker, here's what I found..http://www.newyorker.com/online/covers/articles/010402onco_cover_gallery
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2005 Posted November 9, 2005 There was a great one after the A-Rod trade of Yankees in pinstrip suits lining up on the foul line with money pouring out of their pockets, hats, and lapels.
Guest KC Guests Posted November 10, 2005 Posted November 10, 2005 That cover looked vaguely familiar. I have no idea what the fatigues are all about, or what the artist is actually trying to say either. It prompted me to pull out the 2000 New York Mets Memorabilia Checklist that was published by Dave Berman. Dave used have a collectors club and newsletter that was sent out every couple of months, I don't know if it's still in existence. I'd be interested if anyone knows Dave or the status of his club I let my membership lapse some time ago. He may very well post on the boards for all I know ... that would be pretty funny if he's reading this. Anyway The New Yorker covers didn't make the cut for some reason, maybe because she's not a Met? I put together a list of covers culled from the checklist of Mets who have appeared on non-sports publications over the years (through 2000, of course) because I thought we might find it interesting.Boy's Life Gooden Sept '86Bunshun Capitao (Japan) Yoshii '98Estrrellas Del Deportes - Los Fabulosos Mets - 1970 (a Mexican comic book depicting the history of the Mets from '62 to '69)GQ Darling Aug '86; Piazza Apr '99Gentleman's Quarterly Hernandez Apr '86; Darling Aug '86Guidepost Hodges Jun '70Jet Mays June '72; Apr '73; Oct '73; Jun '75Life Koosman Sept '69Live Entertainment Piazza Aug '99Market Revue Kranepool (no date indicated)McCall's Seaver May '70Newsweek Sept '69New York Carter Oct '86; Gooden/Strawberry Oct '88New York Times Magazine Strawberry Feb '84; Various Mar '85; Cashen Aug '86New York World Telegram & Sun Team article '63Parade Seaver Aug '69People Seaver Jul '77Police Gazette Stengel May '62; Seaver Sep '71Preview Seaver Jun '83; Darling Apr '85; Cone May '88, McReynolds Apr '89Roerig Pfizer Kranepool '89 (recipes for diabetes control)Rutgerrs Magazine Torborg '92Satelite TV Guide Johnson, H Apr '88Science News Johnson, H Aug '89Scholastic Magazine Bonilla '927 Days Hernandez Mar '89Tampa Bay Life Gooden Mar '89Time Mets Sep '69; Gooden Apr '86TV Guide Piazza, Alfonzo, Ventura, Leiter four different covers Sept Oct '99Village Voice Hernandez Apr '87Wall Poster Magazine '72
