Not that I want to discourage form filling-out ... but it's not like they're unaware that customers are going to want that channel added to their cable package, it's just whether they can add it at a decent (for them) price.
Until then, "We have no information" is merely corporate-speak for "we haven't struck a deal yet and have no idea when/if we will"

How is it possible that a Met fan wouldn't understand "corporate-speak" fluently? These people have been sucking down that bullshit for decades., FK--they need no translations.

since i have comcast cable i suppose i am certain to get this network. i called comcast to ask when it starts and the lady on the phone had never heard of it. since then i read this thread and learned it starts in march. that still leaves me wondering if they are gonna broadcast all the games in HD. i know there is a limited number of channels the cable company can do in HD at once. i hope sny is one of them.

for yankee games in HD they put the HD yes feed on INHD, the comcast owned hd channel. maybe they will do the same for the mets.

Cablevison to carry SNY says Bloomberg (the business service, not the Mayor).

No contract is yet signed, but according to "people familiar with the negotiations" ... "Cablevision Systems Corp., the New York-area's No. 1 cable television operator, reached agreement to carry the network that shows Mets baseball games".

What this all sounds like is that they know they can't force SNY onto a "pay tier" status since they tried and lost that battle in court with YES a few years ago. So they're going to carry the channel prolly with details (like price) still to be determined. Without the $$ figures it's still possible it can fall apart I suppose but right now this gives them a leg up on 'Direct TV' and should stem mass defections.

Then all they'll have to do is figure out what to put on their MSG channel between the time the Ranger season ends this Spring and the new one begins next October.

Broadcasts start at 5 p.m. tomorrow if you get this channel. My suggestion: bring Mark Coppola out to announce, "This is rock and roll" and plant a Met flag on the moon.

"Launch party" from 4-5 pm thursday at or outside the studios, 51st & 6th.
Meet Ron Darling, win a free TV, etc. etc etc

I was watching a test pattern on SNY last Saturday night. I can't wait for it to go on the air!

Scarlett, is SNY part of your local cable package or are you getting it off a satellite?

I was trying to tune into the Met game and accidentally selected the Yankee game.

".. and that's why Robinson Cano is a special player. A lot of other guys --- Bubba Crosby, for instance --- see the outside pitch and pop it up. It takes a special hitter to go the other way with this pitch. I was telling Larry Bowa that this guy has a chance to win batting titles. Not a title ---
titles
...."

Guys, you've got the job already.

I saw an SNY commerical on Cablevision yesterday.

We should really thank the Yanx for being first to start their own network and thus causing their fans to miss an entire season of games.

*snicker*

Am I blinded by my anti-Yankee bias in thinking that Cano isn't that special?

Everyone is all hopped up on him and Wang, and I really don't get it. To me, it seems like they'll be competent and all, but hardly super stars--or even All Stars.

Cano does have a nice swing, I'll give him that. But yeah, I'd be surprised if he ever turns out all that special.

There is something to be said for competent, and that's what he could be.

Cable. For the first time since moving to NJ, having Comcast doesn't suck.

SNY agreement still not finished as launch nears

BY NEIL BEST
STAFF WRITER

March 16, 2006

SportsNet New York, the area's newest regional sports network, had not finalized a carriage agreement with Cablevision as of early last evening, less than 24 hours before its official launch.

There continued to be strong indications, though, that a deal will be in place for Cablevision's 3 million subscribers to see SNY when it begins operations at 5 p.m. today.

"We are committed to working out a deal and hope to finalize it prior to our launch," SNY spokesman Andrew Fegyveresi said.

Cablevision would join two other metropolitan area cable giants in carrying SNY, but the others, Time Warner and Comcast, are part owners in the venture so their participation never was in doubt.

SNY, which is to televise 125 regular-season Mets games this year, likely will be available on Channel 60 in most Cablevision homes.

The network has yet to make a deal with satellite provider, DirecTV, but it appears there will be a deal before the April 3 opener. A deal with Dish Network is a possibility.

From 4-5 p.m. today, SNY will hold a series of activities outside its studios at Sixth Avenue and 51st Street in Manhattan. Current and former Mets and Jets such as Ron Darling, Ed Kranepool, Curtis Martin and Mark Gastineau are expected to sign autographs.

For what it's worth, Channel 60 on Cablevision Long Island is a listings channel except when there's a spillover Isles or Devils hockey game, in which case the info button one presses to get a description of what's on the channel indicates "Islanders and Thrashers will be coming up tonight". Well, there's been no change in Channel 60 showing listings EXCEPT that the "Islanders and Thrashers coming up tonight" tease has been moved to Channel 14, Cablevision's other listings channel. Gives me hope that the mythical SNY spot on the dial is indeed being cleared at 60. Guess we'll know in 4-1/2 hours.

Precedent: When YEECH premiered in 2003, it showed up without warning on Opening Night from Toronto, just in time for Ken Huckaby to lay the smack down on Cappy Derek's shoulder, which was definitely worth seeing live.

As usual, nothing will probably get done until the 11th hour. I don't like how that article describes the Dish Network situation.

SNY is on the air. MK and I watched it turn from a test pattern to a live broadcast.

MK was less than impressed with the intro video that said that if you do badly in New York we'll boo you 'til it hurts (but then went on to say that if you do well in New York we'll adopt you like a son).

The reception is awful, the picture is jumpy and the sound is distorted.
