Same 5 - 3 -1 point system as ROY

Colon: 17 - 11 - 0 = 118
Rivera: 8 - 7 - 7 = 68
Santana: 3 - 8 - 12 = 51
Cliff Lee: 0 - 2 - 2 = 8
Buehrle: 0 - 0 - 5 = 5
Garland: 0 - 0 - 1 = 1
Millwood: 0 - 0 - 1 = 1

Oh come on now. Colon deserved this one. If there is any bias, it's from people predicting the winner who have a bias against late-season performers. We tend to focus on the early season too much.

I was kidding. I should've included an SC.

Colon had most wins and was on a better team, but Santana was cleary better in every other category (IP, ERA, K's, WHIP ...). So was Buehrle.

Santana should have won this one, no question. He led the league in ERA+, WHIP, BAA, K/9 & K. He was second in the league in ERA--missing a tie for first by just .01--was well as in IP, in shutouts, and in K/BB.

Colon, by contrast, led the league in only one category--wins, and failed to crack the top five in ERA, BAA, K/9, IP, K, Shutouts, K/BB, or ERA+. As a matter of fact, the only other category he DID crack the top 5 in was WHIP, where he came in 3rd.

Frankly, giving him the Cy is a joke--almost as embarassing for baseball as giving Zito the Cy over Petey in 2002.

Wins are next to meaningless when it comes to evaluating pitchers, and I can't for the life of me figure out why it plays such an important role.

they definately gave it to the wrong pitcher. there is no way to argue that Colon was the best pitcher in the American league. on the bright side, hopefully this means that Clemens will not win in the NL.

Colon deserves it.
Unfortunately, the award doesnt always go to the best pitcher, but many times to the most valuable pitcher on a team that gets to the post season.

I dont agree with this per-say, but Colon certainly fits that bill.

Santana was my favorite.
I had him on my fantasy team (did in 2004 and hope to again in 2006).
He's the best, but he did struggle a bit about mid season.
