I was going to respond that Milton Bradley is the type of player the Mets could use, only to realize that other than being 5 years younger and perhaps, possessing more potential, he's not appreciably superior to Mike Cameron.

I actually have only minor issues with the same 3 guys coming back.

I'd prolly put Cameron in center and move Beltran to a corner, try extremely hard to get better numbers out of first & second base, and demand that Reyes and Beltran have better years.

Of course, it is in any free agent's interest to say he's open to signing to play in New York. And it's in the interest of any fvie-and-ten guy (like Ramirez) to say he isn't open to being traded to playing there.

my issue with this is that it's harder to move someone back up the defensive spectrum and that we've a seven year (well six now) commitment to Beltran whereas only one more to Cameron.

Also according to Clay Davenport's metrics (if you buy into them) Beltran was above average AND

I need translation into English, but I think what he's sying is Beltran helped Floyd appear better defensively? I'd buy that at least somewhat.

If it's all a matter of the committment, well I was against that too.

My information has always been, regadless of what Omar has said publicly, that he'd prefer to trade Cameron than play him in RF.

I think Cammy's value is so low now they may not be able to trade him untile after ST...which, unless you're getting back a younger corner OF (Melky Cabera?) makes little sense.

And you're basing this on what? Two games?

Actually, he was rated the minors' best defensive OF last year by Baseball America, which is why the Yankees tried to force feed him CF this year. He;s only 21-22 years old and from what I've seen of him, is a very nice prospect, especially in a corner spot.

I rate him higher than Victor Diaz as an all-around player, that's for sure.

Look, I'll knock those two as much as anyone when I think they deserve it, but sports radio host seems to be heading toward one of those jobs that many amatuers think they can do as well as the pros.

M&MD have not only survived but thrived in NYC and in the biggest daytime time slot for over 15 years now. With over 100 radio stations avialable in this market (not to mention the introduction of satellite) the easiest thing to do is turn off a radio show and few have a talent to make people NOT turn off theirs. That's not an accident or quirk of fate.

So feel free to turn yours off if they're not your cuppa, but they are in fact commanding many people's attention and are frankly 'Masterpiece Theatre' compared to most of their competitors and imitators.

Mad Dog's rants can sometimes be humorous. I was able to listen to them for 20 to 30 minutes in the car. They'd get good guests, and their interviews with the factions in the NHL strike were interesting.

But if you listen to them for too long you can feel your mind going numb. As of a couple of months ago, my radio dial is no longer set to WFAN. No Imus, no Mike and the Mad Dog, no Richard Kneer on Saturday morning. I'll listen to Mets telecasts, and pre- and post-game shows, and I'll probably tune back to WFAN if the Mets make a big offseason deal, but I've found that there's much better radio out there, and I don't miss WFAN at all.

Yeah, again, it's been a while for me. But I've found them absolutely indistinguishable from the "imitators," who I don't think are imitating them so much as imitating some blowhard model that predated them.

They survive largely because they got the right spot at the right time and don't deviate from the tired formula. Media is like that. Getting your spot and squatting it well is an accomplishment of sorts but hardly something I see worthy of praise. The same could be said about Jay Leno, Art Buchwald, and whoever now writes Barney Google and Snuffy Smith. And even those examples (the first two anyhow) could claim they were devastating once upon a time.

They get good guests because they have the best slot. Getting good guests is not in itself an example of quality that should justify them getting the best slot.

as far as WFAN in general goes i love Summers and Beningo, though i hate that they put him in the late morning/early afternoon asnd with sidiot, he was much better solo and he was the guy you wanted to hear sunday night after a jet loss.
