Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Also, since we're no longer on ezBoard, we don' t have to worry about posts falling off after the 20th page. So the "too many topics" fear is no longer warranted.

Guest KC Guests Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 Thanks, Willet ... I did a backup download earlier and the trimming erasedalmost 25% of the database file.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2006 Author Posted March 23, 2006 New inductees into the Featured archives include:Rotblatt's formula for measuring pimp and savvy satire from Edgy DC.Adopted prospects who flew the coop are now found offsiteRemember that the offsite CPF Archives are quite expansive, so if you can't find something here, you'll find it there.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2006 Author Posted March 23, 2006 Moved to NBF Classics.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Not being able to search in the archives and not being able to steal code are two big flies in the ointment.
Guest KC Guests Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I don't wanna be captain obvious, but you can search the subject titles at least with your browser (in case anyone doesn't know that). Adding somekind of search capability is a good idea - one of those google "search thissite or internet" thingies maybe.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Rotty's work did not have to be moved anywhere to be a Crane Pool Classick.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 I just commented in the Bitch to the Admins forum that it would be nice to have a link to the archives at the top of the home page.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 There's one in the middle of the home page.
Guest KC Guests Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Sometime tonight, there will be only one link on top of the home page ... to The Crane Pool Companion :-)I better get to work now that I said that.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 Elster - after much looking around, I found the link that you mentioned. Yes, it's there. But let's just say it doesn't jump off the page at you. Still, thanks for the heads up.Kase - I'll look forward to seeing that

It will help once the pages are spidered by Google, but that hasn't happened yet, and I have no idea when it will. Once it does, though, you could go to Google.com and, under Advanced Search, choose to select only from getalifealready.com. It's possible that other search engines (Yahoo, Alta Vista, etc.) have already spidered the site; I haven't checked. If they have, and they have an option to search only one domain, then that would work too.But since the archives are no longer in a database, and are simply HTML text files, the effort required to create a custom search function is too much for it to be feasible. If anyone wants to check out other search engines to see if we're spidered, please let us know what you find.
Guest KC Guests Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 There are java applets that are out there that will spider one site, I'll research it.
