You're right! I momentarily forgot about the 2-2-1 format.

How about they play a doubleheader in Anaheim, then?

I'd be down with that, yo.

Why the hell was Fox playing "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes" during the 4th inning? WTF?

Bad throw, Chone Figgins.

Last chance for the Angels to become the third team in as many years to celebrate at MFY Stadium.

Figgins Cabrera Vladimir (Russian for 'Rules the Earth') vs. Mariano, who'd hit 3rd if it goes to xtras.

Top of the order up against Rivera, MFY three outs away form going to Cali.......Rivera gets Figgins.....

Dan Shulman is a great radio announcer, love to listen to him.

It's bad enough watching this comeback ... but oncea-fuckin-gain those pinheads did it by hitting almost nothing hard. Same as in game 1.

Cano - broken bat IF 1B
Posada - walk (the real crime of the inning)
Sierra - RBI 1B (only hard hit ball all inning)
Jeter - topped IF single + bad throw scores Posada

they're effing frustrating to watch.
NO ONE gets as many dinky IF hits as Jeter & Sheffield

Game over, fuck, I hate this shit.....well the Angels will ahve to beat them tomorrow night....damn.....Lieter gets the win.

I think all three runs could've been turned into outs by better throws.

Two anyhow.

Yeah, the Figgins throw it looked like he couldn't get the good grip on the ball, I don't agree with McCarver that if Figgins had cut that LF throw off that he would have had a chance to get the runner,Rodriguez would have been safe IMO.

on edit..ESPN tells us that was Als first WS win since he won in relief for Toronto in 93.

Yup!

The one from Anderson in LF was closer than I thought it would be as I assumed that was a run immediately. He isn't much of a LFer or a thrower and didn't charge the ball well either.

The one from Vlad c/s-hould have gotten Cano. For all the marveling at the strength of his arm, Vlad can be more than a bit erratic. Better throw gets him, Cano's fairly slow for a middle-IFer.

The throw from Figgins was just plain bad. Anything even mediocre there gets Posada who's a plain bad baserunner. Tough to get on him there after making 2 game-turning catches earlier in the series.

It was a bad throw and Rodriguez seemed to be running with heavy legs. A good throw gets him. A cutoff-relay sure had a chance.

That's what I thought edgy until FOX showed the slow-mo, in one still picture it showed Figins on the infield with the ball on the outside of the dirt, Rodriguez was more than half way home, the way I saw it was that if Figgins catches that ball by the time he makes the throw the runner would have been in standing maybe...

The cut-off is a tough call for Figgins - especially cuz he's not a full-time 3Bman - and McCarver is right in that he probably couldn't hear for a cutoff call even if one was made.
Essentially he'd have to be on his own there and the one thing he could have done - assuming he was lined up properly - was to see that the throw was headed for the 1st base side of the plate. Once you realize that the throw is on that side you NEED to cut it because even if it's in time it'll pull the catcher away from the plate w/o the possibility of making a tag. A cutoff is less critical if the throw is off to the other side.

Cool, I forgot about him, surely this favours the Angels, I hope they have Colon back in Cali sleeping like a baby.

Colon was sent back to Cali yesterday I believe. If not, he might have throw tonight (and Lackey for tomorrow on full rest if needed) once Washburn went down with whatever.

Mussina's been in Anaheim the entire series. He never came back east.

Interesting that both are back in Anaheim , of course it makes perfect sence, but what if this game turned out like the Braves Astros game, now that would have made for some fun.

Seven post-season starts for the Mets with only one win to show for it, and Leiter picks up the win for the Yanks.
It must be the aura of the pinstripes.

He does seem to be able to pitch to Erstad. Erstad has looked foolish twice now against Al.

Yankee aura doesn't help pitchers get wins so much as Yankee batters.

Winning is also a very different enterprise entering a game with your team behind. Best not to pay attention to pitchers' W-L records at all.

Well, we know Colon won't get one tonight.
Out of the game in the second inning.
Replaced by the other Santana.
No reason given.

Ugh. I can't stand thunderstix. I wanted to commit acts of violence when they gave them out during a Met game I went to as part of a credit card promotion.

Molina is hitting .467 in the series. I see his great postseason leading to him getting overpaid and disappointing the team that signs him from a major market.

The Angels are killing the Yankees softly with an assortment of dinks, flares, and dribblers in the third inning.

Hideki reaches into a crowd of about 15 to make a nice catch, as Bartman cries in agony. Nice play.

McCarver tells us "When a player goes into the crowd the crowd can slap the ball out of his glove." Thanks for the info Timmy.
