Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Signing announced about a week ago.Didn't even know they were eligible to sign him, but there you go.

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Oh ok, they switched it already.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Edgy, saw this posted on NYFO. No link provided:Added pitchers Brian Bannister, Anderson Garcia, Henry Owens, Yusmeiro Petit and Juan Perez to the 40-man roster; sent outright outfielders Ambiorix Concepcion and Todd Self to Norlfolk of the International League (AAA).Juan Perez is a 27 year old lefty reliever who pitched for Pawtucket last season. But who is Henry Owens?Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Owens was nabbed from Pittsburgh in last year's rule V draft. He spent the year at St. Lucie and did well (which he should have at 26) and went to the AFL went Jeremy Hill got hurt. He's a hard-thrower, fastball-sinker-slider guy.Huge step backwards for Concepcion, that he's considered a safer exposure than stalled guys like Baldiris and Lydon.
Guest mlbaseballtalk Guests Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Well it could just be the Ron Darling Tribute spot for BensonCourse we could find 25 guys to fill various "slots"Right now we no longer have the Stearns/Carter/Hundley/Piazza tribute "Clutch Power Hitting Catcher Who Lead The Team" slotWright is the "HoJo Tribute Third Sacker With Pop and Potential" slotAaron Heilman gets the "Rick Augliera Tribute Pitcher Without A Real Specific Slot Slot" and so onSteve
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Let's not water down a memorial honor.
Guest mlbaseballtalk Guests Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Well that was the point I was trying to make with the Augie slot!Steve
Guest mlbaseballtalk Guests Posted November 18, 2005 Posted November 18, 2005 Actually, to be fair, lets give Tom Glavine the "Warren Spahn Memorial Future Hall Of Famer Hanging On For Another Go Round Roster Spot"Shouldn't be a frequently used one, and maybe a case can be made that Glavine can have a "Clemens-esque" resurgence and stick around a long while, but it is a good slot to use, especially for pitchersSteve
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Roster at mets.com shows the addition of Bannister, Garcia, Henry Owens, and Petit, but not Perez and not the removal of Concepcion and Self. They also finally include Humber, show a retention of Woodward (suggesting the Mets do indeed control his rights), and include only 36 guys, indicating that there isn't currently a roster crunch that would force them to remove Self and Concepcion. On edit: Oops, here's a reference to Perez.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Added to 40Starting PitchersRelief PitchersBannisterPetitGarciaOwensPerezActually, there's a lot of things the Mets site isn't telling me. Adding these five brings me to 40. I'm counting Ishii, whose rights the Mets still control after his option was declined, but he may have been removed from the roster.Starting PitchersBensonGlavineMartinezSeoTrachselRelief PitchersBellHamulackHeilmanIshii(OptionBought Out)PadillaRelief PitchersCatchersInfieldersTakatsuTug McGraw Memorial Goofy Reliever Roster SlotZambranoCastroHietpas(CurrentlyNot on 40-Man Roster)A. Guest mlbaseballtalk Guests Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I still think there should be a Warren Spahn memorial slot for "Future HOF Hanging On For One More Go Round" and given to Glavine!=Steve

Why should the Mets be looking at pitchers that old as a permanent fixture on their staff? EDIT"Self and Concepcion were removed from the roster last week.Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 Yes, I read and responded. The report is that they have been outrighted to Norfolk. That seems to imply that they have been removed from the 40. I need to confirm that.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 21, 2005 Posted November 21, 2005 I think we should only name roster spots after people who have passed away, since that's what we've done anyway.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 I would give the Tommie Agee Memorial Forceful, Fleet, and Fun Outfielder Roster Slot to Floyd. He's not as fleet as Beltran, but he can move. And he seems more fun. Beltran is wooden and cliched. Floyd makes Wright carry his luggage around and does silly little hopping multiple step-handshakes that show he still thinks he's David's age._____________________________AN ALMIGHTY 119) KEVIN ELSTER POST
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Time to slot in Delgado, or are we waiting for final confirmation?
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 It's not an official deal yet, and probably won't be until after Thanksgiving.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 We put Nady in while that trade wasn't yet official.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 You really are impatient, aren't you?I hope as you get older you monitor your blood pressure.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 23, 2005 Posted November 23, 2005 Yeah, I'm waiting on confirmation and finalization. Too much coding to backtrack.I think the Tommie Agee slot has to go to a guy with mad gamebreaking fence-busting athletic skilz. In my imagination, it was established in upon Agee's death in the 2001 offesason, and was held by Jay Payton until he was dealt at the end of 2002, but the chair remained sketchily filled until the Cameron acquisition. It seems like it should go primarily to centerfielders, but Cammie retained it in his shift to right because it would have been unseemly otherwise. On the notion that it must be perpetually filled, it was given to Jeromy Burnitz at the end of 2002 and passed on to Tsuyoshi Shinjo upon Burnitz's dealing in 2003. Cammie has restored the shining brilliance of of the honor.I hope Delgado is ready for the Clendonon patch on his sleeve.I think Valadius needs a hobby. Another hobby.Look at some of us --- Yancy, me, Scarlet. You don't want to end up like us.
