He was the second player, following Ken Boyer, that was my official "favorite player" as a kid. RIP.

His 1970 was one of my favorite secret (or underappreciated) Met years. He drove in 97 in only 121 games, essentially 3/4 of a year.

From 69, Manager Gill Hodges as well as pitcher Cal Koonce (early 1990's) GM Johnny Murphy, and pitching coach Rube Walker, not to mention two fellas who called the action in Lindsey Nelson and Bob Murphy

Since he will probably never get his number retired in his honor, I propose that from now on, the place of any power hitting first baseman on the Mets be called:
The Donn Clendenon Memorial Roster Spot, or DCMRS

This name and spot is to be carried forth by edgy in his ongoing roster updates.

Not only was my son on the field for the National Anthem yesterday, but he was there for Donn's moment of silence. I found that a very special thing, especially since MK can truly appreciate the loss of the 1969 World Series MVP.

The Shea moment of silence was a lovely gesture but they kind of screwed it up by not asking everybody to stand. Thus it was actually kind of noisy. Not that that's a bad thing. As the PA announcer recalled Donn's career, and DiamondVision showed his stats, there was a heartfelt round of applause. I've always felt that's a more appropriate tribute to a fallen ballplayer.

When the semi-silence was over, the PA asked everybody to "remain" standing. Ah, Mets. Even when you mean well...
