Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-metsmoves&prov=ap&type=lgnsThe Mets have purchased the contract of Anderson Hernandez and designated Dae Sung Koo for assignment. It's about goddamn time. This happened about twenty minutes ago.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 So naturally, the start goes to ...... Cairo.Why am I not surprised?Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 He's been out for a week and apparently there's concern about his wrist. He's scheduled to be in there on Tuesday. Randolph reportedtly wanted him.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 We're really jonesing to get Randolph.Matsui has a strain of his hamstring, which is what precipitated the callup in the first place.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2005 Posted September 17, 2005 Welcome Anderson, he's wearing # 1, saw him in the dugout today going over signs with Manny Acta, maybe we'll see him play this weekend.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 and now instead of calling him up in july or august and hopefully having ~200 ABs to show us what he can do we get to see him for 2 weeks in which he probably won't start much and will therefore not give us enough information to know if we want to go forward with him in 2006. good job mets :/
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2005 Author Posted September 19, 2005 Well at least he's playing now as opposed to not playing.
Guest SwitchHitter Guests Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 A guy can make an impression in two weeks, even with only a few ABs. We all know that it wouldn't mean much, really, because of sample size, but impressions last, be they good or bad. This is his chance and he needs to make the most of it because he may not get another. That's not fair, but that's how it goes.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 MK and I kept telling the kid to get his first major league hit yesterday. We wish he listened to us.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 On the UMDB popularity rankings list, both the top guy and the bottom guy have the last name of Hernandez. If you take a look at an alphabetical listing of all players, both the first guy and the last guy have the first name of Don.As Marv Albert might say, it's "wild and wacky."
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 Anderson Hernandez waited his entire life for this moment, to hear his name being read by a Major League public address announcer as part of a Major League lineupYesterday, the lineups were read by some kid who won a contest, 40 minutes before gametime because the Mets had to run a string of promotional ceremonies between 12:30 and 1:10.Granted, Hernandez probably had other things on his mind, but it seemed, talk about Irony City, rather minor league.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 No matter. 20 years from now, his memory will make it sound like his name was read by John Facenda.Later
