Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Wilkerson: ball 1, foul strike 1, ball 2, strike 2 called, foul, foul, ball 3, foul, foul, foul, basehit past a drawn-in Matsui (scored an error)Game tied, 1st & 3rdBaerga to PH - GiDP
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Jason Bergman in to pitch to Matsui, Beltran & FloydMatsui - FO to LF
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Why draw in the infield?Whatever happened to playing for the tie at home, the win on the road?Stay back, maybe get a double play, but even more likely prevent the go-ahead run from advancing.Willie is such a... guy I disagree with often.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Beltran - 1B ... does he run?Floyd
Guest holychicken Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Why do we insist on trying our best to lose?2 errors in the 9th inning when you are up by a run is totally unacceptable. That being said, I fail to see how Looper takes much of the blame here. . .although, I didn't see Matsui's error. . .how bad was it?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 "Why draw in the infield?" They apparently didn't pull them in until it was 3-2 figuring that with the runner on the move (he was on each of the foul balls) you wouldn't get the DP anyway so try and cut down the run.Floyd Ks looking.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 WWSB=GIDWOI like that, Edge. You're right, holychicken, although it sounds like it wasn't an easy play for Matsui, according to Gary & Howie. Sounds like the scoring decisions could've gone either way.I think Beltran should run. But he's been caught an awful lot lately . . .
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 And Wright looks at strike 3 after being up 2-0.
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 So did the crowd form a lynch mob and go after Looper?_____________________________This post had the designation 154) Tommy Davis
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Roberto in to face Johnson, Wilson & ChurchJohnson - 4 pitch walk
Guest holychicken Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 2 Ks looking in the bottom of the inning. Just great.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Would Matsui's ball have been a game-ending DP?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Dunno. I'm only on the radio here. But as mentioned above with the runner off on the pitch it's unlikely that ANY ground ball would have been a DP.Wilson singles to RF - Johnson goes to 3rd but Preston is caught rounding 1st.Runner on 3rd, 1 out.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Looper's inability to get the job done recently, combined with WWSB's inhuman patience, is a match made in Metfan Hell. It's almost as if they are determined to show another how wrong it is: Looper: I'm hurt! WWSB: See Omar? He sucks! and so on.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Church GOs to 3rd and the runner holds (I was praying for that).Castilla up and backup catcher Osik on deck. Gotta walk Castilla here. But they don't and he singles to RF!!!!WTF?
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Maybe Willie WANTS to lose. Why pitch to Castillo? It just makes no sense at all.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 I think the strategy is "Play for the loss at home, play for the debacle on the road."
Guest holychicken Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Why the hell did Willie pitch to Castilla? I don't get it. . .
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 Of course we can kill Looper all we want except that Hernandez coughed up 3 hits while really only getting 2 outs.Osik grounds out.In comes Cordero to face the bottom of the order -- oops, now it's Majewski.Diaz, Woodward on the bench.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 This is exasperating, I mean is wasn't that long ago we were only half a game out in the WC, now it's a freefall....
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Dug-tub it. Let Self bat for Williams.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Author Posted September 15, 2005 The only thing I can think of is that they preferred Castilla over the threat of the lefty hitting Schneider PHing for Osik. But Schneider's been hurt and may or may not have been available.Williams - IF 1BNow it's Castro, Cairo & the pitcher's spot.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Yoooooo got a lefty on the bench.BUNTING?!
Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Gameday is giving me agita. And I thought I didn't care who won today._____________________________This post had the designation 154) Tommy Davis
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 15, 2005 Posted September 15, 2005 Self is a lefty and a reeeal firstbaseman.Shigelack!
