MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Although he may have hurt his chances last night, do you agree with Jayson Stark?http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=2154658What say you?Later
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 Carpenter is pitching better right now, and if their ERA's wind up within .2 or .3 of each other then he would have to get it. Still, you can't blame Clemens for the spectacularly awful run support he's gotten.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 He has allowed five earned runs on the road all season. this is mind boggling. Its a tuff call too. Ill have to wait til all their numbers are in.Ill let ya know in Oct
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2005 Author Posted September 10, 2005 My view is that the award is named after the pitcher who had the most lifetime wins. Don't you think win totals should be taken into major consideration when you vote? As someone mentioned, their overall peripherals are fairly close, even though that road ERA is mind boggling. If you want to give out an award for the pitcher with the best WHIP, then name an award after old Western Movie star Lash LaRue. (OK, so I'm still bitter about the bat shard incident)Later
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Clemens is blowing up all of a sudden. Carpenter gets it.
patchyfogg Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Didn't Carpenter best Clemens with a 1-0 complete game this year? Good enough for me.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Seriously, here are the stats for 3 top candidates as they stand right now: (Sorry, I don't know how to make the pretty tables like Edgy does)....................W-L....ERA....WHIP...BAA....OPS...K/BBCarpenter...21-4....2.21.....0.97.....213.....578....4.40Clemens.....11-7....1.78.....0.96......188.....520...3.05Willis...........20-8....2.52....1.12......241.....633....2.98If I had a vote, I would go with Carpenter over Clemens, with Willis finishing a distant third despite a fine season.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 ....IP....220....192 1/3....200 1/3Gotta go with Carpenter.
Guest Rotblatt Guests Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Carpenter. And not just because Clemens is a fucknut. The dominance in IP & peripherals is plenty enough for me.
Guest SwitchHitter Guests Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I think Clemens should get it, but won't. Like last year, I thought Randy Johnson should've gotten it but didn't.
