Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I'm ready to drop Cairo to about seventh on the depth chart at second.Met fans, choo asked for him.Mientkiewicz was an interesting choice. He had been 2-5 so I got no problem there. But I agree that VZ should have been pinch-hit for, if only because it's September and the team has a lot more bullets. Some bullets, like Mike Jacobs, went un-fired.Welcome to the UMDB, Tim Hamulack.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2005 Author Posted September 2, 2005 Hooray for Hamulack!!!(Somebody dig up that song from the other thread)
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 so they showed a little sign of life there in the 9th, huh?If they dont get superhot, this is gonna be a depressing seasons end.Piazza may not be back (Ill bet he bats afew times in late Sept for a decent sendoff) Floyd looks sluggish. Like someone said, even when he pops it, it only reaches the fence. He's fatigued at a time we need him all charged up.Not his fault tho, or Willies. Its a long season and he aint no spring chicken. And he got us here. Time for everyone else to pick him up.If Beltran does not crack the 20 homerun platue, thats gonna be a tuff one to swallow. I figured his 1st yr in NY was gonna be an adjustment, but he dont even wack 20?! I still like him and am glad he's here. Ill give him afew years to show his stuff before i start goin off.Ill give Willie afew years at the helm to, before I absolutely start rippin him to shreds if it is dictated that he should get ripped. But I see indications that his use of pitchers may be a weak spot in his plans. You would think Rick Peterson would make that not so, but it seems that Peterson sin may be pride if he is making wishful decisions based on how he wishes things were going to go so all his advice & moves look hunky dory in retrospect. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullett and make adjustments that may reflect personal errors in judgment. Shouldnt be no big thang if the success of the team is your motivation, and not the success of your past moves or advice. Of all the sports known to man, its baseball that makes you most humble.Do i sound a little bummed here?Thats cuz i am.The last 3 have been tuff suckass losses, especially after showing so much life in the Arizona series and the 1st comeback win with the Phils Tues.I was whitt'lin earlier tonight and, and I think it was subconscious, but the block of wood started to resemble a coffin.Im not carvin the Mets name on it yet tho.Not until its mathamatically appropoe.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Well, this was one crappy read. I'm really tired of Zambrano's inconsistency. He supposedly has great "stuff", but I'd prefer results. It's not like he's a young pitcher that's still developing. I think what we currently see from him is what we can expect throughout his tenure with the Mets.Willie seems to have an unhealthy love for middle infielders, particularly Cairo. Cairo is fine in a limited role as a back up. Unfortunately, without a true everyday major league starter for second base, he has received far more playing time than he should. With all of the middle infielders on the Mets bench, there is no real power threat available for pinch hitting other than the recently called up Jacobs. Obviously, this team has a number of holes it will need to address this off season in order for them to be serious contenders for the playoffs in the future. As for this season, they have improved immensely from what we have endured the past three seasons, but unless they get phenomenally hot real soon, they'll be watching the post season at home just like all of us. Somehow, I have a hard time envisioning this team making a sustained run.Sorry, just venting some frustration. This IGT was depressing.
