Guest KC Guests Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Bases loaded for Floyd and Eischen comes in. Cliff, 0-2 and a walk, says whiff, whiff, and whiff. Kinda ugly stuff he wasswinging at. No bang pow for you.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Johnson pulls a Buckner, Wright will bat as the tying run.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 But Wright Ks. Guess he was hopin for something in.Sheeeeee-it.Well, at least there was that Kaboom by Jacobs. It wasnt a total waste to sit thru. What a time for benson to have jacknada.shame.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 When trying to catch up to such a disasterous start you can't leave as many chances out there in the middle innings as we did. Even a mesely little 2-out single in any one of about 3 different spots (Diaz, Floyd, Castro) makes that a whole different game and would have made those 9th inning follies mean something other than just a tease.Oh well.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Just got back from the Benson suck-fest.I feel faint...
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 It went basically unnoticed but Cairo had a terrible game and an awful series.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Things I noticed while at the game today:You CANNOT blame Benson completely for the first inning. The defense was ABYSMAL. Beltran and Diaz screwed up multiple times, and the infielders didn't reach for line drives when they could have.On Jewish Heritage Day, the Mets made a HUUUUUUUGE mistake by putting the Dome of the Rock Mosque in their graphic for commemorating the day. That was one of the biggest boneheaded mistakes I have ever seen.Willie (could somebody tell me what WWSB means, exactly, before I start using it?) made a ridiculously dumb move by not putting Jacobs in to catch for Castro after the HR. Castro looked absolutely lost out there, as did Cairo and Beltran. But you don't need to worry about having an emergency catcher with DiFelice on the bench.Joey Frank-Eischen-Stein is a really small guy. He's tiny! This was Danny Graves's last chance, and he delivered in economical fashion.Kaz Matsui doesn't belong in the majors.Cliff Floyd has an interesting pre-swing routine- he taps the plate like this: - - - - - - - - - |..2...........4..| \\.......3.......// \\\\..1........./// \\\\\\........./////... And then sort of cranks the bat with his hands and cocks it down.I've never seen so many doubles hit at once.Omar needs to start the youth movement- sans Diaz.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 WWSB, which I do not and will not use, stands for Wee Willie Small Balls.I only had a minute to turn on the game this afternoon, looking for a score. First thing I saw was Graves on the mound, and I thought, oh, shit, the games out of reach.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 why "sans Diaz"? i'd be much more inclined to jettison Matsucki and his fellow 2Bmen.Diaz is hitting .260/.361/.468 in 154 ABs (~180 plate appearances.) I can't stop playing him until those numbers drop significantly.only 30 of these ABs came post all-star break (his recent callup) in which he is hitting .333/.323/.600. he hasn't walked since he came back up but extra base hits (2 homers in one game and 2 doubles) have jacked up his SLG%. he has 18 TB in his 8 games in August, including a 3 hit game and 2 2-hit games. This guy has EARNED his playing time which is more than i can say for certain other guys.is his glove good? No. but until he stops hitting well he's worth keeping in the lineup.

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 He looked COMPLETELY helpless in right field. His poor defense allowed the Nats at least two more runs than they should have had. It was painful to watch him out there.

I was ready to scream at Horowitz but I couldn't find him on the field before the game. Whoever did that should have been fired mid-game.
Guest ScarletKnight41 Guests Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 It's funny and shameful at the same time. Simpson-esque.
Guest Bret Sabermetric Guests Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 Relax. This is the Mets. No one's getting fired. Ever.Oh, they'll shitcan an Art Howe, two or three months after he totally loses control of the team, and the columnists are all but openly writing that he commands zero respect in his clubhouse, but that's about it. If heads start rolling around here, who knows where it will end? Someone might conclude that it's not pathetic Uncle Artie or poor lost Willie OTFJT Randolph who's causing the sub.-500 seasons singlehandedly. Very dangerous.
