The Mets tied a record in 1982 by drafting 12 players who would eventually make it to the bigs. Name them.

Hints:

Eleven of the twelve signed with the Mets. One did not.

One came in the the old "secondary phase" of the draft.

Six (of those signed by the Mets) would make their big-league debuts with teams other than the Mets. One of those, however, would finish his career with the team.

Edgy, Raffy Palmiero, was the drafted, but not signed by the Mets, 1982 player you mentioned.

IIRC, other players of that era who were drafted by the Mets but who refused to sign (go back to school) included Bruce Hurst, Roger Clemens and Matt Williams.
Can you imagine a staff with both Clemens and Seaver? Until he retired, Williams always had a no-trade to the Mets clause in his contracts.

The one player the Mets drafted and didn't sign that year was Kyle Hartshorn, but I believe they drafted him again,and he did put in some time in their organization, but never made the majors.

The secondaty phase player was reliever Randy Meyers.

MFS62: Bruce Hurst, Roger Clemens and Matt Williams.

No, nyet, neine. Hurst was drafted by the Sox in 1976. The Mets picked Clemens in 1981. (remember, it was supposedly a tryout for Bob Gibson --- no conservative white guy there --- that did him in, and Gibson and everybody else was gone by 1982). Wiliams was a Met pick in 1983.

Lundy: Dwight Gooden (Yup. First round.) Kevin Mitchell (Nope, a 1980 amateur free agent.)

Tracey Jones was part of that youth movement in Cincy in the mid 80s, along with guys like Eric Davis, Kal Daniels, Kurt Stillwell, Barry Larkin, and a little later on Paul O'Neill.
He was an OF with decent speed, and the only other thing I remember about him was later on with the Giants he had a 7-rbi game while batting behind Kevin Mitchell, who kept getting intentionally walked.

Or perhaps this is Tracy Jones, known only by this "THEN" photo.

Or perhaps this is Tracy Jones, whose Web presence says nothing but "Isn't she the cutest?" and plays an annoying song.

And, according to the Sporting News Baseball Register, the Mets drafted Williams in trhe 27th round of the 1983 draft. he was drafted by Sf in the first round of the 1986 draft, and he signed with them.

And the Mets drafted Roger Clemens on the 12th round of the 1981draft. It was on June 8th, BTW.
He was later drafted by the Red Sox in the first round of the 1983 draft.

I thought the Mets also drafted Williams, but now that I think back , maybe they were going to until he told them he wouldn't sign with them if they did.

Yes, and my first post was totally from memory. I said "of that era". So I missed Clemens by one year. Big deal.

But I got Raffy Right, and Meyers, before anyone else did.

I waited a long while before opening up the book to provide the full list, because it seemed all other posting had ceased.

Good to know at least some of the "leetle grey cells" are still working.
