Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Actually they're in anaheim right now but you get the idea.Certainly not a surprise.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 No surprise , they never really did seem to have confidence in him, plus working under two General Managers has to be tough, did the owner hire him or did the GM's?
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Anybody thinking he's taking the fall for Raffy?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Not really Cooby, if anything the Raffy thing might have delayed his firing.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Tough nuts for him. Come on back as a coach, Maz!
patchyfogg Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 He should have said "I don't want Raffy back on this team," knowing that he was going to be fired anyway. In this scenario, he could have come out smelling like a rose by forcing Angelos the lawyer to have to go to bat for Palmeiro.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Serves him right for going over to the "Dark side" when he blew the whistle on the Interference play when we played the Yanks.Since that day, he doesn't deserve didly from Mets fans.Later
Lundy Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Former Mets third base coach Sam Perlozzo takes over as interim manager for the rest of the season...
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Perlozzo maintains, to some extent, the Metly quotient in the manager's club.

I forgot that. He is dead to me.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Perlozzo was a successful Tides manager when he was promoted to The Big Club for the stretch run (such as it was) in '86. I seem to recall Davey then or later grumbling about Cashen sticking him there, sensing a possible replacement hovering over his shoulder.Funny how when an organization is successful that the minor league skippers and Major League coaches are considered presidential timber -- Perlozzo, Harrelson, Cubbage, Robinson. Once the Mets went downhill, they weren't seen as quite the breeding ground of future leaders.

Wouldn't he be better served looking out for the interests of the team that is opposing his, because he happened to play for them ten years ago?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Elster, of course he should. But by doing that, he officially cut his ties with the Mets. I couldn't care less what has happened to him since.Later
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 Seems to me that the ties were cut, such as they were, by the Mets, when they waived him in 1989.
