Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 First of all, who or what is The Connecticut Post?Second of all, don't the Mets have a pretty packed booth already? Maybe Kiner is set to pack it in?Story.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Saw the bit they are talking about, I'd love to see Cone in a pre/post game type of show, either way signing with the Mets a few years ago apparently burned his bridges with the MFY, if I recall Cone was not that upset about that.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Connecticut Post is a Bridgeport newspaper. It's been around for a while. That's all I know about it. I grew up reading the Stamford Advocate.
Guest cooby Guests Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Maybe they are coming up with an entirely new announcing staff...
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 The Connecticut Post has a daily circulation of 249,000.It isn't The Times, but not too shabby.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 The speculation about Cone to the NYM booth made the rounds in many outlets last week when he was dropping into several booths to stump for a charity cause. At least one of the papers further opined that it's unlikely that Seaver will be back as he's looking to dive more full-time into his wine business. And then there's always the speculation that Fran has long been a favorite of the Dolans at Cablevision and not necc the Wilpons so it's not a certainty that he'll be a part of the MESS network either.Kiner's only working a couple of game per month now anyway. It's not like him "packing it in" is going to change anything.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Cone would be interesting in that he's a lot like Hernandez -- a smart non-conformist (but not a tiresome self-conscisous rebel) with a jock's insider perspective and the brains to spell it out, but just jerky enough to say a few unprofessional things.Seaver, of course, says nothing unprofessional, and in the long haul comes across jerkier.Staying with the organization as a professional glad-hander would be an excellent role for Seaver.
Guest Spacemans Bong Guests Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 Connecticut Post was once the Bridgeport Post and a good paper. Then it tried to expand into Fairfield County and became crap.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2005 Posted July 5, 2005 The Hartford Courant.Now THAT's a Conneciticut paper!
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted July 6, 2005 Posted July 6, 2005 When I first saw the thread title, I thought Cone was acting like some punch drunk boxer that never knows when to hang it up and was looking for a tryout with the Mets. Whew, I'm glad it's just an announcing job. I think Cone could be an interesting addition to the broadcast booth.
