SSDD (same shit different day)

Marlins continue to score w/o ever hitting a ball hard. 3 (at least) infield singles plus a dinky bloop off the chalk about 30 ft behind 1st and that was about it. Only a long FO by Cabrera early and a late 2B by Lowell were even semi-smacked.

The problem, of course, was that the Mets didn't even hit that well - 3 hits total, only 1 after the 1st - plus they even managed to lose a scoring opportunity when Encarnacion mis-judged a fly to RF.

Other stuff:
- Cairo doesn't have much range
- I can't remember the last time I saw Wright really pull a pitch, he seems to be "settling" for shots to the opposite field
- Piazza actually threw a perfect strike to nail Castillo stealing ... and Reyes managed to make the tag this time
- We finally got Encarnacion out ... he was 10/10 at getting on at one point
- Nats won again, this time in 12 innings even after they blew a lead in the 9th and then allowing a go-ahead in the 11th. We need to put a whupping on those guys.

Back to back days where we leave the bases loaded in the first inning. Ugh

We are ten games behind the Nationals, nothing less than winning three games wil do at DC, at least the brass won't make any stupid moves this year, at least I hope they won't, I think this time last year the Mets were three games out.....

the nationals are going to have a skid sometime soon, their record in one run games is ridiculous and their lineup is very thin. They're basically being carried by Nick Johnson, Guillen and Brad Wilkerson. If Wilkerson and Johnson (make it through a season without getting banged up once that'll be a first - em as I speak Johnson's gone on the dl) and their pitching is seriously thin.

I'm more worried about how far behind Atlanta and the Marlins we are, which isn't very.

I'm more worried about us getting back up to .500. Again.

We looked lackluster out there yesterday. Reyes looked terrible at the plate--like he didn't have a clue. He did line the first pitch he saw into center, but even that's not what you're looking for from your leadoff guy.

Wright finally gets moved into the 5 hole, and what's he do? K with the bases loaded and 1 out. The pitch he K'ed on wasn't even close, too--not what we've come to expect from Wright . . . Usually, he's pretty solid even down in the count.

In the second (or maybe the 5th) Offerman ground out to Castillo, who bobbled it, but he wasn't running hard and got thrown out with relative ease.

I know I've been hard on him, but Zambrano looked good yesterday. He needs a strike out pitch, though. 1 K through 8 innings when he clearly has good stuff? That's not good. The HBP was really frustrating, too. He was up 0-2, then plunked Lowell--you just can't do that. Aside from that, though, he was around the plate the whole game and no one looked too comfrotable facing him--aside from Pierre, whom Reyes would do well to emulate . . .

Willis didn't actually seem that dominant in person. We got a few well-hit balls off him, but they were right at people. Our real problem was that we didn't work him that well. On the other hand, given how he dialed it up there when he needed to in the 1st, maybe he was saving it for when he needed it, and he just never needed it . . .

yeah i'm not saying were in great shape, but I think there's still a chance for the lineup to really click and for us to have a 10-4 stretch or something like that.

I will say this though, if there's a chance to bring someone like Adam Dunn, who's rights are controlled for another two years after this one, I think it could be a justifiable risk. I'm not sure yet, but it might be. Carlos Beltran showed what a top quality acquisition can do for a middling team around now. Locking 380+ and 500+ slugging in at 3/4/5 would make the world of difference to that lineup.
