He's a 19 year old putting up a .252/.296/.362 line in the SAL, but he supposedly oozes nice tools. 30 SB already, too.

When I adpoted him, someone commented that this was a breakthrough bacause nobody had adopted a Latino prospect yet. Not sure if that was true, but I'm an equal opportunity adopter.

Scouts continue to gush over his tools and potential. He continues to develop, not like last year's prospect Alihaji Turay, who has not developed as predicted.

Some scouts believe that Mets Double-A outfielder Carlos Gomez has even more upside than Triple-A outfielder Lastings Milledge, the team's top prospect. Gomez, however, is not close enough to the majors to make the Mets comfortable about trading Milledge. Playing in Double-A at age 20, he's struggling with a .582 on-base/slugging percentage.

Looks like Carlos made the adjustment.

For most of the first half, Carlos Gomez appeared a prospect the Mets stupidly rushed from Low-A to Double-A as the 20-year-old battled major plate-discipline issues. Omar Minaya said they pushed the five-tool athlete "to challenge him." Over the last month, the challenge has been met to such a degree that a scout who saw him provided this rave: "He's the young Raul Mondesi. He's the most explosive young player I think I've ever seen. I had him 3.9 [seconds] to first from the right-hand side, and he runs it hard every time. He wants to show off his speed. His arm is explosive. I saw him make a catch in the gap where he was playing shallow and had to cover about 70 yards. He hit a 95 mph fastball in his eyes on a line out of the park. The Good Lord touched him with ability not a lot of folks have. He's starting to figure out the level, not striking out as much, and he's just 20." The sport is hardly universal in its praise for Gomez, but an AL farm director who also saw Gomez recently added, "He showed an adjustment to breaking balls with two strikes, which was impressive for his age and reputation. He has unbridled enthusiasm for the game. For me, he's on the verge of being an above-average player." The scout, no fan of Lastings Milledge, said the Mets should trade Milledge because Gomez is better. But those close to Minaya say he sees Milledge as part of the Mets' core starting next year and would deal him only for Dontrelle Willis. And Minaya said proudly, "in [18-year-old] Fernando Martinez [hitting .321 at Low-A] we have a kid coming along who could be better than all of them."

Thanks. After struggling at AA earlier this year, my kid has his average up around .250 - and rising.
And what would be bad about an outfield of Lastings, Martinez and Gomez some day soon?

After that turgid start at Binghamton, my boy is up to .274 and rising rapidly. And his strikeouts are way down (now 66 in 80 games).
He reportedly is the fastest player in the organization, so his 15 or so GIDP indicates that even his ground ball outs are hard hit.

Looks like Omar was right in having him skip a level (high A ball). He's adjusting nicely.

That would be nice, if true.

They started him in AAA this year. As of a few days ago, he had at least one hit in every game this season(14 games) and was hitting .392. He has also been 6 for 7 in SB attempts.
