Edgy, wasn't that Tyler Yates pitching AGAINST the Mets in a recent series?

So with Piazza, Cairo & Mientkiewicz still banged up, any chance we'll put one of them on the 15-day DL and call someone else up to strengthen our bench?

Dougie hasn't played since June 5, so he could be back in business in just 10 days. Actually, we could even throw him in AAA on a rehab assignment to try and tune him up a bit. Cairo hasn't played since June 5 as well.

Brian Daubach has a 1.017 OPS in 175 ABs so far in AAA, and with our struggles at 1B, I don't see why we wouldn't call him up to help out a bit. At the very least, he's a power lefty off the bench for us--something we don't have now.

Defensively, he must be pretty bad, but we'll need a DH for nine games in about a week, and he'd certainly fit the bill there . . .

Aybar

Graves

It's kind of sad. With DeJean having come up empty earlier in yesterday's game, Aybar had a chance, if he pitched a clean mopup inning in the ninth, to possibly be retained when Graves was brought in. He spilled the bucket while mopping up, and his Met career is apparently over.

Is it me, or does Graves seem to have a really long neck? In fact, I'm looking at some tint changes in his neckflesh, and I'm going to call bullshit on this photo. Homey's cap isn't all that's been photoshopped. That whole torso belongs to another.

To another!

]I don't know what the 40-man roster move is that was made in order to activate Jose Offerman, but it's almost certainly a transition of Bartolome Fortunato or Felix Heredia, surgery victims both, from the 15-day to the 40-day disabled list.

I thought I once read thatthere is a limit to the number of players you can have on the 60 day DL at any one time. If so, what is that limit?

I don't know. Obviously, I meant the 60-day there. Currently they only have two guys there.

I I hadn't updated this in a while, figuring the Mets had stopped transacting. I forgot to not the removal of Miguel Cairo from the diabled list. Although I'd like it if he was abled to throw the ball to first the other night.

I'm cueing this up in anticipation of a Mientkeiwicz activation.

The guy has been re-habbing with the Gulf Coast Mets. What's that about? Might as well rehab in the Pony League.

Naturally, he walked three times in his last game. A productive game, but it's hard to ready yourself for the bigs if you don't swing the bat.

Looks like we all missed a transaction. Padilla replaces Martinez, and we're all so worried about Pedro that we don't even note that a new Met has been summoned and is making his debut.

If Mets.com can be trusted, Padilla is wearing 28, which is just the last shovel on Scott Strickland's grave is what it is.

Yeah, I know. The Mets are idiots and should have released Graves outright. Save your keystrokes.

Better late than never, Jae Weong Seo comes back fiercely.

I watched some replay of yeseterday. It looks like Seo, and others on the staff are learning from Pedro how to fool the hell out of peeps with the change. Sheesh.

Anyhow, a squeeze may be coming upon Trachsel's return.

I didn't believe it either, but apparently, when the notion of sending him down was tossed around earlier this season, it was so reported.

Initial roster fallout from the collision.

Part of the story is how lucky the Mets had been, health-wise, compared to previous years.

Jacobs

Jacobs comes up to cover for a hairline fracture on Piazza. Hopefully it's not longterm, but, in the end, he may be Piazza's eventual replacement.

Welcome to the show, Mike Jacobs.

Meanwhile, Jose Santiago, through no fault of his own, enters limbo.

Forgive me for being dumb, but the blue means no more options, correct?

Guest Edgy DC

That's the idea.

No, I don't know why Zambrano is orange. It doesn't seem right, but earlier in the year, it was reported that the Mets still could option him down.

="Edgy DC"]No, I don't know why Zambrano is orange. It doesn't seem right, but earlier in the year, it was reported that the Mets still could option him down.

I'm convinced that he doesn't have options.

The explanation of "options" (courtesy Rob Neyer):

]"Options"
After three years as a pro, a player must be protected on a team's 40-man roster, or he is eligible for the Rule 5 draft (more on that later). Once he's served those three years, and assuming he is added to the 40-man roster, his club then has what are called "options" on him.

When a player is on the 40-man roster but not on the 25-man Major League roster, he is on "optional assignment." One common misconception about the rules is that a player may only be "optioned out" three times. Actually, each player has three option years, and he can be sent up and down as many times as the club chooses within those three seasons.

When you hear that a player is "out of options," that means he's been on the 40-man roster during three different seasons, beginning with his fourth as a pro, and to be sent down again he'll have to clear waivers (more on those below).

Zambrano's first pro season was 1996. Assuming he wasn't added to the D-Rays 40-man until 2001 (his first ML season), he'd be out of options after the 2003 season. Zambrano's record supports this - he was in the minors and majors in 2001-03, but starting in 2004 hasn't been in the minors.
