Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 15 Posted January 15 From MLB.com: The Guardians bolstered the pitching depth in their developmental pipeline on Thursday, when they acquired lefty Franklin Gomez from the Mets in exchange for international bonus pool money. The deal coincided with the opening of the 2026 international signing period on Thursday. Cleveland sent New York $1.5 million in bonus pool money, a source told MLB.com.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 I assume the Mets wanted to refill their coffers after giving $3.9 million to Wandy Asigen.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Is it actually $1.5 money that teams such as The Guardians send in such deals, or is what the Mets get more like the right to spend $1.5 million of their own money beyond their previously established cap?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 I assume it's the latter, that the Guardians just give up some spending power, not actual cash. But I'm not certain of that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I do too, but when the report says Cleveland sent New York ... money, well, ambiguity reigns!Anyhow, they have indeed finalized the signing of Wandy Asigen along with outfielder Cleiner Ramirez.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 15 Posted January 15 The Guardians transfer $1.5 of international pool money from their account to the account of the Mets so that the former has that much less to spend this year and the latter the same amount more because, just like energy in the universe, international pool money cannot be created or destroyed, merely transformed from one form into another. Anyhow, they have indeed finalized the signing of Wandy Asigen along with outfielder Cleiner Ramirez. Everyone knows it's WandySaid to be the second best int'l prospect as the new signing period begins, the 16 y/o lefty hitting SS was thought to be headed to the Yanx but then backed away after the team fired their international scouting director last month. Here he is hiding his stormy eyes.[FIMG=300]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/G-uRS7abIAAdWrT?format=jpg&name=small[/FIMG]
