but more importantly he is effective and durable.

Exactly. Led MLB in appearances in 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025, and was just outside the top 10 in 2022 and 2023 (68 appearances each of those 2 seasons).

His strikeout rate with the Mets (3.29 per 9 IP) was a little concerning. I guess we'll find out if the Mets think that was flukey.

I realize his ERA did not reflect it, but he was not particularly effective with the Mets. Seeing so many opposing hitters elevate against him was maddening. How do you bring it from so low and still leave it up?

I do not think that it is something that can not be affected with adjustments, but Helsley was not the only trade that failed to yield dividends. On the other hand, I probably let his numbers with the Giants for the first four months of the season lull me into holding him to an unreasonable standard.

Also, the whole publicity-chasing-Trump-cheerleader-of-a-mother thing is creepy.

Well, shame on me for conflating my baseball moms. My apologies to Amy Rogers.

It looks like the Yankees, Dodgers, and Giants are all coming after him.

Statistically, he vaguely reminds me of that fella Mike Adams from the 2000s and 2010s. The Mets also had Mike Adams once, giving up only Geremi Gonzalez to get him, though they let him go through waivers and he never pitched at the big league level for them.
