roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 From June to June, specifically from last June 13th through this June 12th, the Mets had a won- lost record of 104 wins and 60 losses. How is it possible for one team to be so dominant over what is more than a complete season and be so utterly inept in the remaining games?? Same team, same manager, same approach. Are they just ****ing with our heads? Mine is about ready to essplode
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 What happened your "the Mets are just unlucky" theory?
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2025 Author Posted September 12, 2025 Luck comes in streaks sometimes? This is consistent as an explanation. They are very lucky and very unlucky. Makes more sense to me than "They're good at playing baseball then they forget how to play baseball."
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 The starting pitching collapsed. Canning got hurt. Megill got hurt. Senga got hurt. The number of innings caught up to Holmes. Senga returned, but poorly. Manaea and Montas came along and failed. Short outings by starters overworked the bullpen and their performance then suffered as well. It's really no mystery what happened.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 There are skills that are less streaky or luck-dependent, and an organization that leads into the development and acquisition of those skill could theoretically be more successful, or at least more consistently performing around their level of success.

OK, that explains from this June going forward. Now try last June going backward. Completely different set of problems, requiring a whole different set of rational excuses.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 I don't think there is anything about the methods and circumstances of success and failure that is unique to the Mets.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Of course not. There are too many Mets fans (in my opinion) who seem to enjoy wallowing in angst. Maybe fans of other teams do this as well. I wouldn't know about that.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2025 Posted September 13, 2025 I would call it "Mets Mythology"It's a subjective "what do you believe in" or not callIt's by no means all negative. There are positive themes also, The Amazin Mets comes to mind. In my opinion anyway
