Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 17, 2025 Posted March 17, 2025 Sometimes, guys with no prospect label just frustrate the hell out of scouts and keep advancing. Often they are infielders, without the apparent speed for the middle of the diamond or notable power for the corners that might allow them to keep climbing unless they perform unslumpingly at every level, and damned if they don't keep performing unslumpingly. The Justin Turner model of ascension. But, you know, it's been a mediocre-to-good year-by-year climb for Wyatt. No really terrific seasons, and as mentioned, no flops. And while he has himself on the cusp of MLB duty, projected by ZIPS to produce the same fWAR as Luisangel Acuña, and more than Tylor Megill, among other higher profile players, one still might get the idea that he is one flop away from the end of the road.He has heard that before, though. But with his Wally Backman build and lefthanded opposite field stroke, he is too busy getting his uniform dirty to pay attention. He is more interested in your opinion than my own, I think. Jett Williams isn't the only five-sixer on the rise in the Mets system.[FIMG=383]https://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/young042384.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=317]https://www.syracuse.com/resizer/UwWjLmjppSpBHhUsN0hxjT83d9A=/1280x0/smart/cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/advancelocal/JW7CVFEVVNEGNLNCQYHPZGF67Q.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=174]https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Of4AAOSwnsxi16~S/s-l1600.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=154]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-photos/image/upload/c_fill,g_auto/w_180/v1/people/696281/headshot/milb/current[/FIMG] [FIMG=369]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FNrMmShXsAE0Mw-.jpg:large[/FIMG]
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2025 Posted March 17, 2025 While on one hand he can't hit for average, on the other hand he has no power. And for a middle infielder, he doesn't turn many double plays (around one per two games played)But I'll be rooting him on when I see Binghamton play early this year.Later
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2025 Posted March 17, 2025 Cool you should feature this guy.I check on him from time to time as he's one of the guys I think has potential. I'd like to see him reach the majors, if only to validate my assessment that I think he might be able to be a big league contributor.I'm guessing a mid-August call-up, in which he will go 3-for-17 and never be seen again.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 18, 2025 Author Posted March 18, 2025 He has certainly hit for average. Last season in the Eastern League, he hit .288 when the whole circuit (including him pulling up the numbers) hit .237.He only played 16 games in the International League, but hit .283 against a .255 league-wide average. He may not be the goods — he probably isn't — but he hasn't been getting by on charm alone either. And he'll almost certainly get a crack at the bigs with somebody.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2025 Posted March 18, 2025 I live in a Mets minor league town and I still have not heard of this guy. I think he's an AI creation that Edgy made up. Burden of proof that he exists is on you not me
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 18, 2025 Author Posted March 18, 2025 Wyatt has played 77 games for Syracuse over the last three seasons. No doubt they have all been on the road. His full name is Wyatt Hee-Wah Asami Young. And he's an alum of Honlulu's famed Mid-Pacific Institute, the same school that produced Isiah Kiner-Falefa. You should invite him over for a hang.
Nick Morabito Syracuse Mets - AAA CF On Tuesday, Morabito went 2-for-4 with a walk. He also stole his 23rd and 24th bases. Explore Nick Morabito News >
