Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 8, 2025 Posted March 8, 2025 For a good part of 2024, it was looking like a breakthrough season for former first-round pick David Peterson. But quality starting is an elusive thing, and breakthoughs are too often followed by crashes to earth. Is that the fate of our handsome lefthander? Are there conclusions to draw about his post-season, in which he did fine out of the pen but got kicked around in his one start against the Dodgers, despite being given a big early lead.DP's season started late last year after offseason hip surgery, but he should be coming in healthy this year. Should is never a word you can bank on with pitchers, and 1.7 WAR prediction from wherever I got these predictions seems to be doing very little banking at all.It is your opinion, though, that really holds sway.[FIMG=341]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/08/David-Peterson.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=359]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/06/Mets_Marlins_Baseball.1-e1656283173178.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=317]https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/07/David-Peterson-2.jpg?quality=90&strip=all&w=1200[/FIMG] [FIMG=383]https://assets2.cbsnewsstatic.com/hub/i/r/2023/04/12/90478742-4e6f-4578-a7cb-0b58f165e92b/thumbnail/1200x630/4edeb4046af38bdaf7c9f0345bdb86e0/mets-padres-david-peterson-1.jpg[/FIMG]
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2025 Posted March 8, 2025 I believe David is poised to become the Mets big horse this season
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2025 Posted March 8, 2025 Ditto. I'm counting on him for a big breakthrough year.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2025 Posted March 9, 2025 He will continue to outpitch his peripherals. I read a lot of that stuff last year, by nay-sayers who didn't want to believe what they were seeing on the field - really good starting lefty pitcher.I see a breakout year for him: 17-9 3.34 and some Cy Young consideration.Later
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2025 Posted March 9, 2025 He'll be better than he was in 2021 and 2023, but not quite as good as last year. I'll assume 30 starts, 175 IP, and a 11-7 record with a 3.75 ERA. It's interesting he did better last year by NOT being the strikeout ace he was in years past.
roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2025 Posted March 9, 2025 Ditto. I'm counting on him for a big breakthrough year. To quantify, I'm talking a Cy Young type season, 21-7, 2.20 ERA, just a huge career year. He's just that good, with less good results for the past few years, injuries, bad luck, low run support. Mark my words.Actually, I'd like to change my username to "Mark Mywords."
