Welcome to the Steel City where things get started at 6:40 Friday night as Zac (don't call me Zack) Thornton faces off against Carmen (don't call me Miranda) Mlodzinski [6 - 3, 3.15, 1.31 in 25 G tho just 9 starts]

Cribbing partly off Coob's KTE, we won't see Paul Skenes in this series (he pitched Wednesday), or IL'd #2 starter Mitch Keller. We also won't see O'Neil Cruz, or wunderkind Konnor Griffin, or the recently DFA'd Marcell Ozuna, or RF Ryan O'Hearn. We likely Will see Luke Weaver at some point depending on the status of games when they hit late-innings.

Pirates are a bunch of games ahead of us in the schedule though have hit the skids with 9 losses in their last 11 games as they've run into some tough competition lately: Yanx, Cubs, DBacks, Reds, Brewers

 

And now bonus points to the first person to name the duo (not shown in the video) who sang backup on the studio version of this song.

You're thinking of Fleetwood Mac guitarist Stevie Buckingham, producer on the track, and his bandmate Lindsey Nicks singing backup (and also serving as inspiration for the track, I believe).

The real trivia I want an answer to is who did the hair and costumes for that clip.

If we're allowing batters into this matchup, we're gonna get our asses kicked. 

OF Jhostynxon Garcia is good for 39 points.

IF Esmerlyn Valdez brings another 32.

Jacob Gonzalez brings the double-hammer of a pair of Z's on his way to a murderous 42 points.

Spencer Horwitz is not to be left behind with another 33.

By that math, the Mets (a puny 11 points from Luis Torrens — hah!) are doomed.

It'd take a more sophisticated UMDB dataquery than I know how to write in order to figure out the Mets' all-time winners and losers by this metric, but my money is on Dicky Gonzalez for the high and Al Leiter for the low.

All that slugging this weekend, even with names like Wagaman and Pache bounced into the lineup.  But now Brett Baty and Jorge Polanco are back to get theirs.  AJ Ewing, too.

The notion of Brett Baty in left field seems to be shelved for the time being.

Games delayed In Pittsburgh, D.C., Philly, and the Bronx

Cincy @ WAS just started. TOR @ PHI, and ATL @ NYY have yet to throw a pitch. 

But they're not delayed in Boston where the Sox are making the temporarily idle Yanquis see their 5 - 0 lead on the scoreboard.

Conditions still look a little dicey out there, as the Mets get their first two on.

This will be some real jive if Ewing gets called out here.  He didn't really pass the bag, and to the extent that it can be said he only touched it once, it was on the way back.

Everything Mets this inning except for a dumb swing by Bichette and a dumb call on the bases leading into a double-play that didn't have to happen.

I feel safe in saying that Baty ain't making that catch.

That's a dream of a catch.  A ball in that spot should be uncatchable.

Ewing takes a fast one between the shoulders, and Gary says he was hit in the back of the leg.

I'm wondering what he was seeing.

It's amazing how much the booth, particularly G & R but K sometimes also, not only admit to a consistent flouting of speed limits but that they essentially brag about it.

So hot to talk about speeding that they miss where a batter got hit by three or four feet.

And Benge is being removed, hopefully from an abundance of caution.

Mets getting a lot of base hits in front of the outfielders these days.

It'd be nice to read this as the all-or-nothing world in decline, but that is a big ask.
