Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 The suddenly spunky Guardians come into CitiField (first time as Guardians?) for a three game set: Monday 7:10, Tuesday 7:10, Wednesday 1:10They won 92 games and the AL Central last season under rookie manager Stephen Vogt (Vote for Vogt!) before flubbing out to the Yanx 4-1 in the ALCS.This year they were mostly hanging around .500 until Ten Game Losing Streak (from June 26 thru July 6) dropped them to 40-48 and seemingly into 'Sell Mode' territory. Except that they've gone 16-7 since then which nudged them back over the break even point (56-55) and three games out of the final AL WC slot.Much of this winning came after the loss of their Class A closer Emmanuel Clase who is currently on Double Secret Probation for possible ties to gambling irregularities.Sean Manaea will face off in the opener vs Slade Cecconi a name which sounds like one of Madonna's kids but he's actually a former 1st round draft pick of the DBacks (33rd overall/2020 out of U Miami) who dealt him to Cleveland last winter for Josh Naylor. In 13 starts/76 innings this season the 26 y/o righty is a respectable 5-4, 3.77, 1.22 Not only is 3B Jose Ramirez their top offensive star but he's also their best base stealer and has been for years (I had no idea!). 32-of-39 this season and 275/337 (81.6%) for his career. Not bad for a power hitter listed at a stocky 5'8"/190
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 OE: Frayed Knottage totally beat me to the trigger on the IGT. Good work.Lefthander Sean Manaea looks to add more wins to his total and vowels to his name as he bumps up against the Guardians and Slade Cecconi, who, as best as we can discover, is related to neither Gavin Cecchini nor Noddy Holder.Four switchies in that Cleveland lineup.

[TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=250]https://www.si.com/.image/ar_1:1%2Cc_fill%2Ccs_srgb%2Cq_auto:good%2Cw_1200/MTgyNjM2OTAxOTU2NTkzMDU5/cleveland-guardians-logo.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][FIMG=100]https://www.amny.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Ed-Kranepool-Patch.png?resize=50[/FIMG][FIMG=250]https://cdn.freebiesupply.com/images/large/2x/new-york-mets-logo-transparent.png[/FIMG][/TH][TH][/TH]

[TH]#[/TH][TH]Player [/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH][TH]#[/TH][TH]Player [/TH][TH]Pos.[/TH]

[TH]1[/TH]=#00385D ]Steven Kwan =#E50022] (L)[fimg=18]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lf-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]lf[TH]1[/TH]=#002D72]Brandon Nimmo =#FF5910] (L)[fimg=18]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/lf-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]lf

[TH]2[/TH]=#00385D ]Angel Martínez =#E50022] (S)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/cf-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]cf[TH]2[/TH]=#002D72]Francisco Lindor =#FF5910] (S)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/ss-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]ss

[TH]3[/TH]=#00385D ]José Ramírez =#E50022] (S)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/3b-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]3b[TH]3[/TH]=#002D72]Juan Soto =#FF5910] (L)[fimg=13]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rf-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]rf

[TH]4[/TH]=#00385D ]David Fry =#E50022] (R)[fimg=20]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/dh-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]dh[TH]4[/TH]=#002D72]Pete Alonso =#FF5910] (R)[fimg=20]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/dh-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]dh

[TH]5[/TH]=#00385D ]Carlos Santana =#E50022] (S)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/1b-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]1b[TH]5[/TH]=#002D72]Jeff McNell =#FF5910] (L)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2b-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]2b

[TH]6[/TH]=#00385D ]Gabriel Arias =#E50022] (R)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/ss-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]ss[TH]6[/TH]=#002D72]Mark Vientos =#FF5910] (R)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/1b-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]1b

[TH]7[/TH]=#00385D ]Nolan Jones =#E50022] (L)[fimg=13]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/rf-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]rf[TH]7[/TH]=#002D72]Cedric Mullins =#FF5910] (L)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/cf-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]cf

[TH]8[/TH]=#00385D ]Brayan Rocchio =#E50022] (S)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/2b-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]2b[TH]8[/TH]=#002D72]Ronny Mauricio =#FF5910] (S)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/3b-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]3b

[TH]9[/TH]=#00385D ]Austin Hedges =#E50022] (R)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/c-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]c[TH]9[/TH]=#002D72]Francisco Alvarez =#FF5910] (R)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/c-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]c

[TH][/TH][TH]Pitcher[/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH]Pitcher[/TH][TH][/TH]

[TH][/TH]=#00385D ]Slade Cecconi =#E50022] (R)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/sp-sil.png[/fimg] =#00385D ]sp[TH][/TH]=#002D72]Sean Manaea =#FF5910] (L)[fimg=25]https://metsrostercentral.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/sp-sil.png[/fimg] =#002D72]sp

I do not know if Cleveland should literally look out, as their ball team is on the road, so even if the Mets destroy them, the city should be relatively unscathed, but the storm is always coming through.Always.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 It seems like Cleveland deals with the Mets frequently enough, but the only exie on their roster currently is Matt Festa who threw a single, unsuccessful inning as a Met in 2024. Sandy Alomar, Jr. serves as Guardian first base coach.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 Have we faced a team with four switch hitters this year?Lately? IIRC, LA had an all switch hitting infield in the 60s (Parker, Gilliam, Wills and Lefebvre) but I haven't noticed one since.Later
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 The Mets are not only 0.5 back in the standings, they're only 1 game up in the Wild Card race. Magic number isn't going down very quickly these days and it stands at 52.They need to go 27-23 the rest of the way to be a 90-win team.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 The team needs to start hitting. The offense is too stagnant of late.

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 I guess I lost track of the fact that they added yet another Wild Card, lol.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 One of the goals tonight is to get Manaea to around 90 pitches unscathed Cedric Mullins...you appear to possibly be CF #1, a breakout would be welcome hereLGM
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 I amn't cool with a Klondike ice cream polar bear mascot showing up behind home plate when Alonso comes to the plate.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 Really? That's terrible for sureBut can the Klondike hit because these guys can't touch Slade Ceccone
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 How about Montas opening on Saturday for Nathan McLaneSaw McLane's last start. He was dominant, again

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Author Posted August 4, 2025 Game really racing along so far (lack of hitting helps): 3 innings; 35 minutes; 36 pitches for each pitcher
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 The Mets offense has a way of making most starting pitchers look like Cy Young contenders.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Author Posted August 4, 2025 (edited) I was just looking up how often Mullins ran in his career.A: average of 28.8 SB / 7.4 CS per 162 games [79.6% success rate] Edited August 4, 2025 by Guest
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 Lead off walk to Mullins who then steals second without a throw. The Mets really need to cash him in.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 Booth continues to fellate Alvarez
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Author Posted August 4, 2025 I wonder if Alvarez's marching orders when he was sent to the minors [work on blocking, pitch selection, etc.] also included "and get rid of that stupid face paint" ?It has been conspicuously missing since his return after being a nearly everyday presence for the past two seasons or more.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 No surprise that Mullins didn't score. He didn't even get advanced to third. Mauricio at least hit a rocket that was caught by the second baseman (just bad luck).

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 Damn. Cleveland, unlike the Mets, get hits with RISP.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2025 Author Posted August 4, 2025 Well, at least one team knows how to get more than one hit in an inning.
