MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 Last Sunday I saw the Binghamton Rumble Ponies play at Hartford (AA). We sat next to the third base dugout.I went there to focus on a few highly rated players.Jett Williams - ss : There is small, there is tiny, and there is Williams. We're talking Freddy Patek size. But the kid can play. He got three hits, stole a base and carried himself like a major leaguer. He got his uniform dirty in the first inning and he wore it proudly.Ryan Clifford - LF (also plays 1B): Big lefty hitter. Has a nice swing, He had two hits ( including a double off the centerfield wall) and didn't seem fooled on breaking pitches. I'd need to see more of him to decide if he has a chance. He pulled a pitch over the roof in right field, just foul, so the power they traed for is apparently there.Kevin Parada - C: He was at DH and seemed to have a nice swing, but looked bad on some pitches. Former #1 pick, but so was Greg Goosen.I wanted to see pitching phenom Jonah Tong, but he had pitched before. And My daughter's friend's son, reliever Trey McLaughlin, never got into the game. Neither did former 5 tools prospect Alex Ramirez who is still struggling at AA.Later

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2025 Author Posted May 20, 2025 I's think Williams will be in AAA after mid season, with a chance for a brief stay at the end of this season. He has been tried in centerfield, and if he can play there, he will definitely have a chance this year.Clifford, although recently hot, is still climbing to .250. He may need more time at AA. But any improvement would accelerate that. He may be ready just about the time Alonso's two year contract is ready to expire.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2025 Posted May 20, 2025 Well, Alonso is likely to opt out after 2025, so if Clifford is the heir apparent, but not ready for 2026, they'll need someone to fill in for a year.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
