Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Well, fortunately the wild pitch is part of Helsley's toolkit.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Well we missed the last out because of a McGruff the Crime Dog ad
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 =roger_that post_id=191622 time=1746383682 user_id=128]That's his job, to be out there and get hammered. MLB.tv is advertising this one as their free game of the day, but when I go there, it looks like I need to sign up and all I can find is various pricing on their different packages.Anyone know how to watch it (out of market) for free, or is this just some sort of scam? It certainly isn't very clear how to do it, if I can do it.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Again, they ‘Heidi'ed' that last out though

I just noticed that out of market MLB.TV claims to have one free "game of the day" but I'm baffled how to use that feature. Has anyone here ever used that? As with many "free" things, there doesn't appear to be an easy way to use the "free" thing without signing up to some site that makes you pay to register.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 Soto taking called third strikes in consecutive ABs: in the 4th (Acuna on 2nd - scored tied 2-2) and again in the 6th (Lindor on 2nd, Mets down 6-3) were both bad ABsCuz while he's known for his good eye and both were borderline strikes, he's got to be more aggressive in those situations and I think that's part of why he's not beenhimself so far this year, he seems too passive. It's like he's early career Nimmo-ish, looking to NOT swing and hoping to get the call, an approach which is fine in somecircumstances but I'd like to see him take a few more pokes at those with two outs/RiSP on rather than passively passing the buck to the next guy, even when the next guy is the hottest batter in the NL.

Click on the game -- via your computer/laptop, TV, whatever -- and on the 'Watch' button and it should allow you into the game even if you're not a current subscriber to MLB.TV. Also, the game that is designated as Free that day is often also the game that MLBN is showing so you can often get it that way if you have access to the channel via cable/satellite.

I think they are local affiliates that have reruns and such on and I think Channel 11 is one of them.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2025 Posted May 4, 2025 I always assumed that it meant the ump's strike zone was too small, like it was the size of a tin cup.Keith's explanation was way off. The tin cup reference in the movie 'Tin Cup' was a baseball reference, not the other way around.Costner's character, 'Tin Cup', got the name from being a HS baseball catcher and taking too many foul balls in his metal cup.
