Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 17, 2025 Posted February 17, 2025 The Mets may or may not want to go shopping to replace Frankie Montas, but either way, it is kind of interesting to see José Quintana unemployed after his pretty impeccable last half dozen or so starts to 2024, plus two more terrific performances in the post-season before the universe finally caught up with him in his last start on a week's rest vs. the Dodgers.Clearly more confounding is José Iglesias still being out there after hitting (is this correct?) .337 over 85 games last year. While the Mets clearly were shy about overpaying for what would likely be a fallback year, and have plenty of infielders to look at, surely just getting a part of that performance is attractive to somebody, but I guess his agent went through the winter asking for multiple years, and instead is looking at quite possibly not getting a big-league deal at all. Again.Other 2024 contributors still by the phone include Jake Diekman, Phil Maton, Adam Ottavino, Brooks Raley, and J.D. Martinez — the last of whom got himself a memories thread without actually moving on, and was last seen angling for his next act on the pickleball court. There have got to be a couple of Marlins contracts out there for these guys. Rays? Athletics?
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 Mets should sign Maton. Their bullpen is still verrrrrryyyyy weak.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2025 Posted February 18, 2025 I hope they're considering Quintana, now that Montas will be out, probably at least until June. I don't expect, however, that they're going to go in that direction.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 18, 2025 Author Posted February 18, 2025 Has any team entered a season where fans didn't think one more reliever was key?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 Just saw that Adam Ottavino has signed with the Red Sox.He wasn't fooling many batters lately, but he fooled one GM.Later
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2025 Posted February 19, 2025 Boston media reported that Ottavino had other offers, including a major league contract offer from another team he didn't want to sign with. He had some tough outings in 2024 but was outstanding in 2022 and quite good in 2023. No one is being “fooled” here.
