Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 You know about your President of Baseball Ops, but now Steve Cohen has https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/steve-cohen-hires-bloomberg-media-153843295.htmlhired himself a President of Business Ops.That character, should anybody ask, is current current Bloomberg Media CEO M. Scott Havens. And while president is a heftier title than CEO, I tend to think Bloomberg Media is a bigger, more substantial, and more powerful operation than the Mets, so good on Cohen, I guess. Our guy is allegedly in charge of all operations which aren't baseball, so we'll see where the line is drawn going forward, and who gets to decide the next change in outfield dimensions. M. had previously served as digital chief at Time, Inc., where he had https://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/jun/29/time-inc-scott-havens-digital-linkedindeclared their Muskian goal to "build the next LinkedIn or Facebook."We're still waiting on that, but it was during his time at Time that he really advanced his raised-eyebrow game seen below, so good work there.[FIMG=361]https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/GettyImages-1252511189-H-2023.jpg?w=1296[/FIMG] [FIMG=339]https://i.guim.co.uk/img/static/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2014/6/27/1403870531288/M-Scott-Havens-014.jpg?width=620&dpr=1&s=none[/FIMG][FIMG=361]https://metsmerizedonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/havens-683x640.webp[/FIMG] [FIMG=339]https://media.muckrack.com/profile/images/849739/m-scott-havens.jpeg.256x256_q100_crop-smart.jpg[/FIMG]
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 The first Mets exec with an "M." as his first name was M. Donald Grant.A tradition?Later
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 I'm getting a little antsy. My military analogy is someone who spends all his time cleaning his rifle and never shoots it.The Mets are building what I hope is a strong organization, but while they have been doing that, other teams have been making moves. And with all the titles, I'm not sure who has the responsibility to pull the trigger. They need pitching, and I hope they don't depend on building the staff with at least one Japanese pitcher while some "known" players go elsewhere.Taking the half empty view. Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 It's still really early. And hiring a business guy isn't going to distract from player moves. It probably involves the attention of an almost entirely different set of people.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 27, 2023 Author Posted November 27, 2023 Yeah, you really don't want to confuse transacting and acting. I absolutely believe that there's plenty going on, and there are always valuable moves available.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 OK.But with all the new hires(and titles), who has the actual authority to pull the trigger on transactions?Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 David Stearns, of course.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 I always assume that people using a first initial as the beginning of their name are connected to Watergate.
