Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Braves get to do the NY/NY thing back to back, except in their case they still have to travel since it's the Yanx in Atlanta for a three game set starting tonight.Yanx are in a precarious position right now. Not just in last place AL East but just two games over .500 and a skinny +1 in run differential for the season. So a sweep would drop the Yanx below the waterline in both categories which is something not seen in Yanquiland this late in the season in about three decades. And I'm pretty sure that Gerrit Cole pitched Saturday and so isn't on the slate again until after this series is over.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2023 Posted August 14, 2023 Ozzie Albies is out with a "tweaked" hamstring problem. It must have been all that running around the bases he did against the Mets.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2023 Author Posted August 14, 2023 He was pulled mid-game Sunday night a couple innings after an awkward slide.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2023 Author Posted August 14, 2023 8-2 Braves, still batting in the 3rd (1 out).NYY starter Clarke Schmidt's night is done.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2023 Author Posted August 14, 2023 11-3 is your final in [CROSSOUT]Atlanta[/CROSSOUT] Cobb County, Georgia. Yanx now find themselves one game over .500 (60-59) and -7 in RS/RA differential.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2023 Author Posted August 15, 2023 5 - Zip is your final in Atlanta as the Yanx get one hit to drop below. 500
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Author Posted August 18, 2023 As the Yanx begin life as a sub-.500 club for the first time (this late in the season) in 28 years and they do so by hosting the BoSox. They're 3G in back of the 4th place Sawx so they'll need a sweep both to tie for 4th and to get back over .500. Aso, seeing as how they're 6.5 games behind Toronto for the final WC slot (w/SEA & BOSin between) they pretty much need at least two wins this weekend and probably a sweep on that front too.So how does the top of the 1st start? 2B, 1B, RBI-1B, 3R-HRSo if YLDBs are looking for a replay of 1978's 'Boston Massacre' things are not off to a good start.btw, this is also an APPLE+ game so lots of NYY & BOS fans aren't even going to see this one.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Author Posted August 18, 2023 And in top 2nd with the Red Sox still batting it's now 7-0
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2023 Author Posted August 18, 2023 8-3 final in the Bronx. I'm determined to find something to enjoy about this season dammit.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2023 Author Posted August 19, 2023 Ahhhhhh, nothing like getting home mid-afternoon and flicking on the tube to find the Sawx up 6-0 in the 6th.Last night they scored 4 in the 1st then three more in the 2nd. Today it was a 2nd inning GS that kicked things off. That Judge then HR'd while I was typing for the yanx first run and first hit of the game is but a minor annoyance.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Gerrit Cole 6 runs in 4 innings. Yanx looking like the wheels are falling off.Well, misery loves company. My loudmouth Yankme friends have gone silent these days.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 I'd tune in, but I have YES Network blocked by parental control on my boxes.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2023 Author Posted August 19, 2023 Toronto traded for ex-StL SS Paul DeJong at the trading deadline 18 days ago. I hope the guy they traded away wasn't very valuable as today they DFA'd him.Clearly the Jays' problem was that they didn't play the Mets often enough during these past two-plus weeks.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 The Mets might want to pick him up, if only as a prophylactic measure.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2023 Author Posted August 20, 2023 Yanx give up a run in top 9 to go down 6-5They get the first two runners on to start bottom 9 [2B, HBP] but go out K, K, FO8th straight loss Just minutes earlier, the Braves also gave up a tie-breaking run in top 9 [bases loaded walk] then went out 1-2-3
