Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 The Mets return to the site of two of their great 1986 victories, Mark Vientos returns to the roster, Keith Hernandez returns to the booth, and Kodai Senga makes his New England debut.Won't you return and tune in as this Mets team faces righthander Kutter Crawford?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 Get a grip, Mets Twitter. If Tommy Pham is able to get in there, this may be one of MLB's more Asian/Asian-American matchups.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 I can't imagine what is remotely controversial about starting a lefthanded batter against a righthanded pitcher, or alternating lefties and righties in the lineup.

Managers have it been doing it for years. But those same managers might do it differently day-to-day.He never seems to deviate when knowing the other team's pitcher, even though there might be more favorable matchups. His rigidity of lineup structure is what caught my eye. Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 I can't imagine how you can write that his choices are not controversial after writing that his choice must have been made because of threats to his family. These can't both be true. Nor can they "seem" to both be true.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 I'm just counteracting the Vogelbach crybabies.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 Well, let's not be binary.

[TH]Batter vs. RH[/TH][TH]BA[/TH][TH]OBP[/TH][TH]SLG[/TH][TH]OPS[/TH]

Matt Vientos, 2023.172.226.276.502

Matt Vientos, Career.149.200.213.413

[TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH][TH][/TH]

Daniel Vogelbach, 2023.238.350.369.719

Daniel Vogelbach, Career.238.362.446.808

I like Vientos. I've followed Vientos closely and rooted for him over other prospects who were getting more ink — including Brett Baty — and I'm glad for the minor league career he has put together and I hope it springboards into a long, prosperous major league career. But looking at the data above, what in the world can possibly be controversial in Showalter tapping the latter option to start on this muggy evening in July?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 The sample size here is insanely small as to be "incomplete"Embarrassing Mary Contrary move
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 It is certainly small, but it is, in no way, incomplete. Nor is it insane.I have no idea what "embarrassing Mary Contrary move" means.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 So, you're not indicting the Buck Showalter at all?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2023 Posted July 21, 2023 Edgy MD wrote:So, you're not indicting the Buck Showalter at all?No. I was just pointing the pattern and his inflexibility. Whether that is good or bad is a separate issue.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 I understand hyperbole fine. I don't understand deploying it in advancement of a position you don't actually hold.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 I'm not sure why the Sox' run should be earned. Senga didn't throw the ball into centerfield.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 21, 2023 Author Posted July 21, 2023 And the booth seems to also take issue.
