The pronunciation of his last name is wrong. They're saying that the accent should be on the second syllable.

Got it in one. No one, ever, has stressed the second syllable in Agee.

There's a "Questions or Comments" link at the top of the page. They've responded when I've used that to point something out.

Thanks --never noticed that.

Years ago, BBRef had a feature that appeared right after the pronunciation of each player's name ----- a small microphone icon. You'd click on that icon and hear the player's name pronounced. The click triggered playback of an audio file. That feature, obviously, no longer exists. But when it did exist, I wonder if clicking on Agee's icon would have produced the correct audible pronunciation and that maybe, the written pronunciation for Agee is more of a typo instead of a misconception. Hominem. Hominem. Hominem.

I got a response from their "Customer Success Coordinator" telling me "Thanks for bringing that to our attention. I too have only ever heard it pronounced AY-gee," and going on to say that he will pass my revelation on to TPTB and they can change it. Keep refreshing Agee's BBREF page and let me know when you spot the change.

Kudos to Edgy for showing me how to restore stability to the galaxy.

I tried to point out an error once and I heard back from them promptly.

"It seems you have two separate stat lines for Greg McMichael with the Mets in 1998."

"That's because he had two separate tenures with the team that year, Dumbass."

"Oh ... yeah ... right. I mean, of course. Thanks for responding."

    "Fuck you."

A couple of years ago I applied for a low-level job there and they too

responded with the fuck you and a dumbass sprinkled in. "We've read

the red-light forum on that tin-horn joint you help run and no way Jose."

I jest, they run a tight ship. The dozen or so times I've contacted them

over the years was always answered/resolved within one business day.

I mostly jest too. I just felt really embarrassed for writing to correct something they actually did right, that I could've figured out myself, given a minute, only to have them respond quickly and correctly, if a little curtly.

I'm still refreshing. My fingers are killing me and I have to pee. But I must not leave the Agee page so I can find out when it's fixed as soon as it's fixed and then run to tell you. And you didn't even say "Simon Sez".

Oh, the horrendousness of it all!

The crime against humanity has been corrected. I just got official notice that my suggestion has been acted upon and the pronunciation, according to everyone who's ever lived (except for one person) is now AY-gee, and ay-GEE has been banished from BBREF.com.

Hallelujah!

Thanks. It's actually very satisfying doing little things like this. I always think "If you don't do it, eventually everyone who knows how to pronounce 'Agee' will be dead and there will be some idiotic controversy about the correct pronunciation." It's one of the reasons I spend hours on ancestry.com straightening out the parentage of some third cousin, four times removed--perpetuating errors chafes my chaps.
