Me, I like the Philly baby blue and burgundy look. Phillies have a pretty strong uniform game. Underrated. Like the Numbers on the sleeve. Nobody does that.

You know what else nobody does? Grey numbers

That's a unique Mets thing and they just junked it.

In general the powder blues emerged as an alternate to gray in road unis during the '70s & '80s But there were the Phils in Game 5 wearing them at home while visiting Houston has

'Astros' splashed across their bright orange shirts (with gray pants at least). So one can see where this sort of thing can cause agita among those members of the tradition police.

Me, I don't get too worked up over this stuff.

Wowzers!

You can definitely make the case that Alvarado vs the LH-swinging Alvarez was the sound move ... but, man, I'm reluctant to pull Wheeler off a HBP plus a soft single.

But Wheeler gave up two singles and it was lefty-lefty!

Somewhere, Dom Smith is smiling at that bomb off Alvarado.

Last time Dusty was 2+ innings from a WS championship (10/26/02 - 20 years ago last week):

Giants up 5 - 0, top 7th. Russ Ortiz on the mound

-- Garrett Anderson - GO

-- Troy Glaus - 1B

-- Brad Fullmer - 1B

** pitching change ... Dusty famously hands the game ball to Ortiz as he leaves the mound. Felix Rodriguez comes in.

-- Scott Spezio - 3R HR

- Orlando Palmiero - K

** pitching change, Scott Eyre in

-- Adam Kennedy - 1B

** pitching change - Tim Worrell in

-- David Eckstein - FO

[5 - 3 Giants]

Bottom 8

-- Darrin Erstad - Solo HR [5 - 4 SF]

-- Tim Salmon - 1B

-- Garrett Anderson 1B

** pitching change - Robb Nen in

-- Troy Glaus - 2 RBI 2B [6 - 5 LAA]

-- Brad Fullmer - K

-- Scott Spezio - IW

-- Jose Molina - Sac Bunt

-- Adam Kennedy K

And then Troy Percival closes out SFG 1-2-3 in the 9th

Giants would go on to lose Game 7 4 - 1

Bregman may be out, but there's NO WAY that that's the kind of play replay was designed to "fix".

I believe Farmer Ted aka Bubba Sponge and I watched this game together at an UWS bar.

Everyone has been lamenting the transition of the game to "Starters go 5, bring in the bullpen and wait for someone to hit a home run".

But this series has shown that the hit and run, stolen base and defense are also exciting parts of winning baseball. And fundamentals can be exciting, too.

And the team that did those things won.

There IS a future for the game as we knew it.
