Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 Congratulations go out to Mets thirdbaseman Brett Baty, the organizations Minor League Player of the Year. Brett, of course, began the year at Binghamton, where he hit 19 homers in 89 games on the way to putting up a .312 / .406 / .544 // .950 line, before passing through Syracuse in a scant six-game run before jumping the big leagues where he famously homered for the Mets in his first trip to the plate. The lefty slugging Brett, a former first round draft selection, is the first Mets MLPotY to win the award and debut as a big leaguer in the same year since Dominic Smith in 2017. He joined past winners Mark Vientos and Francisco Álvarez in debuting in 2022.When informed of the honor, Baty responded, "I'm deeply humbled, but is there any Schaefer?"The organization's Minor League Pitcher of the Year goes to a player without Brett's first round pedigree. Dominic Hamel, a 2021 third-rounder out of Dallas Baptist, swept to the award in his first full professional season by going 10-3 with a 3.25 ERA in a season split between St. Lucie and Brooklyn, striking out 145 in 119 innings, while walking 54.Other winners include:DSL Complex Co-Players of the Year:Jesús Báez (r/r, ss/2b/3b, .242 / .341 / .403 / .744, 7 hr, 34 RBI in 217 PA) andDyron Campos (r/r, rf/lf, .300 / .359 / .521 / .880, 5 homers and 28 RBI in 157 plate appearances.[*]DSL Complex Pitcher of the Year:Wilson Esterlin (rh, sp, 5-1, 2.70 ERA, 48 SO, 22 BB in 36 2/3 innings)The Crane Pool congratulates all these humble winners and wishes them the best. Dammit, hoo-ray for everybody. Winners at other levels will follow, we suppose.[FIMG=370]https://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/dominic-hamel-e1655900803299.jpeg[/FIMG] [FIMG=370]https://metsminors.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/brett-baty-richard-nelson3jpeg-1536x1229.jpg[/FIMG]
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2022 Posted October 6, 2022 You could have made a case for three players as Mets minor league player of the year. (Baty, Vientos, Alvarez)In many prior years, it was a stretch to name any past one good one. That's progress.Later

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 Because it's not remotely defensible, and rather waste keystrokes on it, I'd rather we just reconsider writing such things.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 6, 2022 Author Posted October 6, 2022 We discern, and hopefully make new and better choices next time.
