Dillon Gee and Endy Chavez

How many other Mets can you think of whose name contains a phonetically spelled-out letter of the alphabet? In Endy's case, actually, TWO syllables (N.D., get it?) I'm a few Mets shy of a complete alphabet (and a few beers shy of a six-pack) but maybe you can think of some others.

There's Floyd Youmans (U), Jay Bruce, Tom Seaver, of course. Any more come to mind?

Actually, you remind me that one of my favorite squads back in the day had a ton of players whose names ended in the syllable "Key" (Gilkey, Mlicki, etc.) which isn't a letter of the alphabet, but there must be some names that contain the syllable "Kay"

I don't see how R. A. Dickey qualifies, except I guess because he went by his initials. J.C. Martin would qualify, too, by this standard but, like the baserunner who loses contact with the base, I consider that kinda cheating.

Billy Beane sort of makes the cut. Conforto (and a lot of others whose names end in "O") fershure. De Aza.

I was thinking that "Beane" is the part that sort of qualifies, but I guess if you break his first name (and a zillion others' names) into "Bill E" than he qualifies as an "E" as well.

I realized that I got started on this because of the Villar = V. R. thread.

So far, the alphabet looks like

A=

B= BEane

C= SEAver

D = DE Aza

E= WillIE Mays

F =

G = Dillon GEE

H =

I =

J = JAY Bruce

K = McKAY Christensen

L =

M =

N = ENdy Chavez

O = ConfortO

P = PIazza

Q =

R = VillAR

S =

T =

U = Floyd YOUmans

V =

W =probably impossible

X =

Y =

Z =

Sorry, which syllables for the phonetic sound of letters are these? You're not suggesting that Maddox is pronounced Madd-EX, are you? I don't get Hefner either.

I mean, it's sort of pronounced like Madd-EX, but the vowel sound is wrong. So is the last syllable in FelIX Millan's first name too. Slightly off. We never had a guy named Exley, have we?

Dwight was always a two-syllable word for Tim McCarver.

I don't think it ever quite made it up to three, but given more time, it might've.

Hey, lez count to ten!

Tai1 Walker

Robin Ven2ra

Mark Gu3

Michael Con4to

5 - FUCK!

E6 Snead

7 - SHIT!

Randy T8

Jeff Co9

Was "EX-avier" a mispronunciation or how Nady actually pronounced his name? Usually, I think "Zavier" is how it's pronounced.

It's sort of like counting "Texiera" as having an "EX" sound in it because some people mispronounced it "Tex-i-e-ra"

Ray Daviault?

This is actually brilliant, in its way.

I mean you've got to twist up your mouth and pronounce it a little funny, and also to hold your head just so when you're listening, but if you do "Daviault" DOES sound like 'dubbayew'--probably as close as we will ever get. I like it.

So:

A= Tommie Agee

B= HuBIE Brooks

C= SEAver

D = DE Aza

E= WillIE Mays

F =

G = Dillon GEE

H = Adeiny HECHavarria.

I =

J = JAY Bruce

K = McKAY Christensen

L = ELLiot Maddox

M = jerEMMy Hafner

N = ENdy Chavez

O = ConfortO

P = PIazza

Q = Colin Mc-Que

R = ARmando Benitez

S = Shaun EStes

T =

U = Floyd YOUmans

V = Jonathan VIllar

W =Ray DAVIAULT

X = AlEX Ochoa

Y = Y.T. Herzog

Z =MaZZEIka

I actually like Whitey Herzog for "T" if we can find a better "Y"--we've almost filled out the alphabet, thanks to Dinosaur Jesus. Just a few more spots to fill, some of them fairly easy.

Hmm-actually. thought of a perfectly good "T"--Felix ManTIlla. And I'd like to keep this a list of actual Mets players, so I'm going to go with the oddly-syllabled Wally WHY-terst until someone can come up with a better Y/
