Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 I realize it's Saturday evening, and we've logged but a few predictions about Carlos Carrasco, but there are a lot of noodles to get to, so we have to keep the line moving.I'm Miguel Castro, and I've thrown a lot of innings for some bad Baltimore teams, and the results have been mixed. I wasn't the reason they were losing, generally, but neither was anybody saying, "Man, if we can just get a few more guys like Castro, and we'd be awesome."But then the Mets acquired me at the trade deadline, and soon they were giving me high leverage innings. And frankly, if you look at me pitch, and forget about the back of my baseball card for a moment, you'd think I was pretty good. I've got some hot, live stuff, but I've never harnessed it enough to be consistently effective. But now I'm a Met, and I've got, like, 11 pitching coaches to guide me. Maybe that helps. Maybe having a little more talent around to take the heat off will help. You know, a few more guys like Castro. Will any of that help? Rick Dempsey has his opinions. How about you?!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 At 6'7" (even though he is listed at 205 pounds) I would have expected him to have had a good K/IP ratio in the minors. He would have been scaring the living daylights out of younger guys, with the ratio decreasing as he increased levels. But he has done the opposite, so maybe his coaching has sunk in.Baseball reference lists his birthday as 12/24/94, so at 26 he might be putting it all together.50 games, 53 middle IP, 48H, 3.85 ERA, 1.29 WHIP maybe even 4 saves.Later

Solid middle guy eating up some innings in places maybe gone bad. No Castro complaints in 2021.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 He's been traded like 4 times already in his young career, so one of those guys who represents potential but also never quite demonstrated he'd be a star.I think he wears his cap stiff and sideways because he's always ready to swap it out for a new one. I also think he's probably one of the most likely to be traded guys (being a Body get), though I'm tempering that expectation now that Betances is so stinky.2-2, 3.97, whiffs 10/9, walks 4/9, traded to the White Sox in July.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted March 17, 2021 Posted March 17, 2021 Will have a "Memories of Miguel Castro" thread in July, for which even Edgy will be stumped.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted March 19, 2021 Posted March 19, 2021 Great early on, ends up stepping in by May by May, as secondary setup man-- with bases clean, preferably, thank you-- and performs like Edwin Diaz's little brother. Which is to say, he'll be similar to Edwin Diaz, only messier (more walks) and more annoying (many more walks). 61 IP, 68 K/33 BB, 3.69 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 8 HR allowed
