The Mets seem to like former Astros, and Anthony DiComo suggests they have interest in longtime Astro/recent Twin Marwin Gonzalez.

As the spot for their sixth infielder is wide open, he could help. He fields well, plays all over the diamond, has some rock solid post-season experience, and despite a poor 2020, has had some decent seasons, including one great one in 2017, when he got a taste of MVP support (and may well have been benefiting from a sign-stealing regime).

The organization is already sick with Venezuelan infielders, but he strikes me to be at that Desi Relaford/José Valentín period of his career where he can transition a bench role and still be ready to step in long-term if a regular lineup spot opens up.

I'd prefer they work on the big things first (a real center fielder and an arm for the rotation) before worrying about the 6th or even 5th outfielder. Spring training starts soon and some things need to be wrapped up.

I don't think it's an either/or question or a matter of priorities. For instance, I invite you to check out the next thread I put up.

His experience in center is very limited, but his defensive value at the corners is very high for the innings he's logged and he could have some sneaky value there. Pretty similar career-wise from both sides of the plate. And switch-hitters who can play anywhere and hit at least decently will always have value on a National League bench. I'm not backing up a Brinks truck for him, but he could be very useful.
