Krane. Gotta love that old coot and how he casually buries Mickey, Rogers Hornsby and Yogi.

Would have liked to have heard more about his doomed attempt to buy the Mets and a more honest assessment of his role in the interesting career he had but Krane is Krane is Krane. He's actually more insightful than he knows talking about other guys.

Yeah, Krane doesn't even know when he's talking out of school. He even found room under the bus for Rogers Hornsby.

Kase, are you running the chapter?

Dang that was fun.

Picturing Eddie attending Dale Carnegie.

Enjoyed the reference to Bob Veale. Terrific underlooked Pirates starter.

Krane wished he had played longer? I guess they all do.

He was only 34 when he hung it up. Plus, despite what he says in the article he was a free agent, but nobody hired him.

Also was available at age 25 to be expansion drafted by San Diego and Montreal, and they didn't bite

I thought the same thing when I first read that. But then I wondered if Krane meant that if there was free agency earlier in his career, like say in the early 70s when he was in his prime yet a part-time or platoon player, he might've went somewhere else and been able to prolong his career by putting up good seasons over 500+ PA's.

He probably did. I was mostly admiring that he never really lost that short memory mentality that some ballplayers seem to require of themselves to have any chance to succeed as much as they did. They sort of have to tell themselves little lies in order to deal.
