Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I don't know who's starting today, or for any of the following five games, but I hope none of them are started by anyone named Steven Matz.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I'm betting that at least one of them will be started by someone named Steven Matz
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Author Posted August 27, 2020 I know. It will be hard to avoid.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Brodie says Wacha will return tonight, weather and social justice consciousness permitting.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Is Gsellman opening? You know, like for the Stones?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Wacha now listed as tonight's starter.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 The Marlins have posted a lineup.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I am watching a players protest before cardboard cutouts and the game is cancelled
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I hope Wacha didn't warm up.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 How does this go down in history? The players took the field. The first batter took his position. Did this game technically start and get discontinued after zero pitches, or did it never occur at all?I guess anything under 4 1/2 innings is considered unofficial anyhow.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2020 Author Posted August 28, 2020 I guess you could perhaps argue that when (if) they eventually make up this game, the original lineups have to be in effect.I don't think that's the case though. Doesn't the home plate umpire have to signal the game to begin? Does anyone actually say, "Play ball!"?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 During the intro Gary mentioned that the umps weren't yet on the field and there had yet to be an exchange of lineup cards, but then added that this is done electronically these days anyway.Without lineup cards -- and it sounds like it was known by all insiders at least an hour or so in advance that this game wasn't going to be played -- there's certainly no way to commit the teams to a specific lineup when the game gets made up. And even if official cards were submitted, I doubt it happens.
