batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Just learned that Jerzy Kosinsky's novel The Painted Bird was released as a Czech movie last year. There must be an immediate American release pending because the interwebs are full of very recent takes. Am totally psyched. I read the book about 30 years ago and absolutely loved it. I read it two more times since then. Nothing to review yet, but here's the trailer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRDuc3IdOn8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRDuc3IdOn8https://www.salon.com/2020/07/17/the-painted-bird-review/https://www.salon.com/2020/07/17/the-painted-bird-review/https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/16/movies/the-painted-bird-review.htmlhttps://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/16/movies/the-painted-bird-review.html

cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 I watched it the other night. Unrelentingly grim. Some memorable disturbing shots but can't say I enjoyed it.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Do you usually enjoy memorable disturbing shots?Lolol
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2020 Author Posted November 18, 2020 Me, it depends, I guess. I haven't seen the movie. But I read the book three times before I learned of this movie. And right after starting this thread a few months ago, I went and re-read the book yet again. The book is chock-full-of scenes that would make disturbing shots in a movie. Many times over. Much of the book is very grim -- and violent. Imaginatively violent.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted November 20, 2020 Posted November 20, 2020 How did it come by its title?
