Look, an outfield of Ashburn, Snyder and Mays with Robbie Alomar on the infield would be pretty damn good — but it's not really Mets, as it were.Second, I'm only in this for nine guys. The rest of the rotation, the bullpen and a bench? Come on....So what do you got? Tim has a few examples and some fans put more in the comments section, but don't cheat! My first shot at this, I tried to stick to guys with shorter tenures to avoid locking myself out of entire eras with one guy, but there has to be a lot of room for improvement here...Seaver's 1983 return is a killer as you can't put him with Keith or Strawberry - since my knowledge of the 60's and 70's is pretty limited my initial plan was to start with Seaver and build a modern hitting team.I filled SS last with slim pickings.C: Gary Carter (1985-1989)1B: John Olerud (1997-1999), only a Met for 3 years he fit the team without overlapping too many people. The downside is he overlaps with the Mets' best Catcher (Piazza) and Second baseman (Alfonzo)2B: Jeff McNeil (2018-2019)SS: Eddie Bressoud (1966)3B: Jeff Kent (1992-1996)LF: Steve Henderson (1977 - 1980)*CF: Carlos Beltran (2005-2011)RF: Curtis Granderson (2014-2017)SP: Tom Seaver (1967 - 1977, 1983)**Traded for each other, Seaver and Henderson were never teammates.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 (edited) We could quantify the submitted lineups by adding up their Mets WARs for an objective way of determining which is the best lineup. This should make you think harder about constructing your lineup. For example, having Alonso at 1B still leaves open every other Mets season other than last season insofar as Alonso has just one season under his belt --2019. OTOH, you'd only get one season's worth of WAR from having Alonso in your lineup, no matter how good that one season was.And there's also this thread: (BTDT)http://www.thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29415http://www.thecranepool.net/phpBB32/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=29415 Edited May 30, 2020 by Guest
