Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 If you get brought up mid-season, you don't get the chance to have a full rookie season measured against the league or against history, but the next year your rookie eligibility is spent. So here's the rookie years of such persons in Metdom, if you measure their rookie season as beginning the day they come up and ending a calendar year later.Jeff McNeil, =#FF8000]July 24, 2018—July 23, 2019[th]G [/th][th]PA [/th][th]AB [/th][th]R [/th][th]H [/th][th]2B [/th][th]3B [/th][th]HR [/th][th]RBI [/th][th]BB [/th][th]IBB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]SH [/th][th]SF [/th][th]GDP [/th][th]SB [/th][th]CS [/th][th]BA [/th][th]OBP [/th][th]SLG [/th][th]OPS[/th]1496145588418837712603337219405116.337.393.493.886That batting average would have led the league in either of the two seasons he straddled there. Rookies who've won a batting average title (at least since 1900) is a two-man club: Tony Oliva and Ichiro Suzuki. His hit total would have been the 11th best in Mets history, and the most for any Mets rookie by 30.His hit-by pitch total would have been the sixth-highest ever garnered by a rookie (but not a Mets record, as Pete Alonso got hit by 21 this season).David Wright, =#FF8000]July 21, 2004—July 20, 2005[th]G [/th][th]PA [/th][th]AB [/th][th]R [/th][th]H [/th][th]2B [/th][th]3B [/th][th]HR [/th][th]RBI [/th][th]BB [/th][th]IBB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]SH [/th][th]SF [/th][th]GDP [/th][th]SB [/th][th]CS [/th][th]BA [/th][th]OBP [/th][th]SLG [/th][th]OPS[/th]16165358995171402288754010470316144.290.355.508.863Looks like it wasn't Darryl Strawberry's rookie homer record that Peter Alonso broke, although once we give the same treatment to Strawberry tomorrow, he's probably going to show 30 or more. But look at Sugar's double total! Mets rookie record to this day!

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 When you review a player's game logs on Baseball-Reference, you can scroll to a date and get the player's career statistics up to and including that date. So I go to the day before the first anniversary of the player's promotion, and BOOM! chaka-laka-laka ...It isn't enough just to waste time on the Mets. You've got to COMMIT.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 Looks like Straw had been the Mets rookie homerun record-holder up to this season after all.Darryl Strawberry, =#FF8000]May 6, 1983—May 5, 1984[th]G [/th][th]PA [/th][th]AB [/th][th]R [/th][th]H [/th][th]2B [/th][th]3B [/th][th]HR [/th][th]RBI [/th][th]BB [/th][th]IBB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]SH [/th][th]SF [/th][th]GDP [/th][th]SB [/th][th]CS [/th][th]BA [/th][th]OBP [/th][th]SLG [/th][th]OPS[/th]14657350677138227318861131444025258.273.354.528.882Look at that low HbP total compared to P-Bear and Squirrelly's rookie totals.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 18, 2019 Author Posted October 18, 2019 Stupid stupid constants and variables. I was only able to suss out the data up to the balk column. So I added those rate columns for Harvey. Once they worked good, I pasted them into the other player's profiles, but they all were divided by Harvey's innings load.I will fixee. It really shouldn't be this hard for me. I think my brain is atrophying.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 18, 2019 Author Posted October 18, 2019 OK, this should be accurate. If it is, I'll replace the two table fails above.What jumps out is all the pounding of the strike zone they were all doing, except Wheeler. I like to think that's Bartolo's influence. It's probably more likely to be Warthen, or somebody they all met in the development pipeline, like Regan or Al Jackson, or Frank Viola. But Wheels was injured for a big chunk of Bartolomania, so I'm thinking it's Colón.Matt Harvey=#FF8000], July 26, 2012–July 25, 2013[th]W [/th][th]L [/th][th]G [/th][th]GS [/th][th]CG [/th][th]SHO [/th][th]GF [/th][th]SV [/th][th]IP [/th][th]H [/th][th]R [/th][th]ER [/th][th]BB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HR [/th][th]ERA [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]WP [/th][th]BK[/th][th]WHIP [/th][th]H9 [/th][th]HR9 [/th][th]BB9 [/th][th]SO9 [/th][th]SO/W[/th]11730300000196.33136535254227122.385500.9686.20.62.510.44.2Zack Wheeler=#FF8000], June 13, 2013–June 12, 2014[th]W [/th][th]L [/th][th]G [/th][th]GS [/th][th]CG [/th][th]SHO [/th][th]GF [/th][th]SV [/th][th]IP [/th][th]H [/th][th]R [/th][th]ER [/th][th]BB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HR [/th][th]ERA [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]WP [/th][th]BK[/th][th]WHIP [/th][th]H9 [/th][th]HR9 [/th][th]BB9 [/th][th]SO9 [/th][th]SO/W[/th]91130300000173.00161807277159153.7571101.3768.40.84.08.32.1Jacob deGrom=#FF8000], May 15, 2014–May 13, 2015[th]W [/th][th]L [/th][th]G [/th][th]GS [/th][th]CG [/th][th]SHO [/th][th]GF [/th][th]SV [/th][th]IP [/th][th]H [/th][th]R [/th][th]ER [/th][th]BB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HR [/th][th]ERA [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]WP [/th][th]BK[/th][th]WHIP [/th][th]H9 [/th][th]HR9 [/th][th]BB9 [/th][th]SO9 [/th][th]SO/W[/th]121029290000182.00160625855181132.873201.1817.90.62.79.03.3Noah Syndergaard=#FF8000], May 12, 2015–May 11, 2016[th]W [/th][th]L [/th][th]G [/th][th]GS [/th][th]CG [/th][th]SHO [/th][th]GF [/th][th]SV [/th][th]IP [/th][th]H [/th][th]R [/th][th]ER [/th][th]BB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HR [/th][th]ERA [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]WP [/th][th]BK[/th][th]WHIP [/th][th]H9 [/th][th]HR9 [/th][th]BB9 [/th][th]SO9 [/th][th]SO/W[/th]12931310000196.33165736740221223.074901.0447.61.01.810.15.5Steven Matz=#FF8000], June 28, 2015–June 27, 2016[th]W [/th][th]L [/th][th]G [/th][th]GS [/th][th]CG [/th][th]SHO [/th][th]GF [/th][th]SV [/th][th]IP [/th][th]H [/th][th]R [/th][th]ER [/th][th]BB [/th][th]SO [/th][th]HR [/th][th]ERA [/th][th]HBP [/th][th]WP [/th][th]BK[/th][th]WHIP [/th][th]H9 [/th][th]HR9 [/th][th]BB9 [/th][th]SO9 [/th][th]SO/W[/th]11319190000112.33110403725107102.963301.2028.80.82.08.64.3
