Lots of day games going on today either just prior to, or in some cases possibly straddling, the trade deadline.

Could be more than a few 'pulled during game' situations across the league ... and not just those involving hamstrings.

Braves @ Nats at noon (Soroka vs A. Sanchez)

Nats treading water at 5.5 behind after splitting the first two games of this series.

Braves' need for a reliever (or two) was emphasized by holding on for a 11-8 win Tuesday night after leading 11-1 in the 6th. (gave up 1 in the 6th, 1 in the 7th, 3 in the 8th, 3 in the 9th)

Fortunately for the Braves they got Erick Fedde (9 ER in 3.2) as the opposition starter in place of the recently re-IL'd Scherzer so had a big enough cushion.

Pirates/Reds rematch also at noon (Tyson vs Buster Douglas)

Not sure who's ahead on the refs' cards right now.

Yanx/DBacks at 1PM (Greinke v Tanaka) which is especially interesting considering there have been rumors of deals between those teams (Robbie Ray mostly).

Snakes won the first of a two-game set last night despite a good start by Yanx' JA Happ (3 run/6 IP).

At this point the Yanx consider it worthy of celebration if the starter manages to hold the opposition to single-digit runs

Dodgers/Rox @ 3 in Denver (Ryu vs G. Marquez)

LA has been quieter than expected so far.

The "good" start by Happ wasn't what the MFYs needed tho. Bad first inning put the MFYs behind right away, and coulda been much worse. Goddamn Wilmer Flores popped out to the catcher with a chance to bust it open.

Yeah, that was one of the few ABs I saw for the whole game.

Just 2 HRs for Wilmer this year although in only 146 ABs due to -- say it with me folks -- ill-timed injuries.

34 games at 2B for WF this season; 13 more at 1B. 33 games started out of 108

Missed two months from mid-May to mid-July

Braves pen coughs up 1 in the 8th then 2 more in the 9th to tie the game

Braves take lead in top 10 (Donaldson HR). Josh Tomlin trying to close it out (1 out / 2 on)

On a not unrelated note, Braves are said to be on the verge of acquiring ex-Yank/current-Tiger reliever Shane Greene

But that won't help them today.

I was hoping that the last thing Greinke did in an Arizona uni was beat the Yanx.

He left today's game during a rain delay up 3-2 but the Yanx just went ahead in the bottom of the 7th

4-3 MFY, bottom 8

Braves closed it out.

No apparent arrests in CIN/PIT this afternoon.

6.1 IP for Vargas in his Philly debut: 2 ER on 5 hits, 5 Ks, 1 BB

Phils just took the lead but JV gets a ND no matter how this one winds up.

Has a team ever been combined no-hit twice in a season? The Seattle Mariners have, including last night against Houston.

So David Price remembered that he's David Price and that he was pitching in the Bronx tonight.

iow: Seven ER allowed and he still couldn't get out of the 3rd inning

7-0 Yanx, top 4

Sox currently on pace to win just 84 games, 24 fewer than their 108-win regular season team of a year ago.

And while obviously the Mariners made the Cano/Diaz deal (and others) for the future, they had better hope those work out in the long run because right now

they're looking at a drop of 23 wins off of last year's record -- 89 wins down to (a projected) 66. That's a big effin' drop for a single season.

Since Cano and Diaz have a combined WAR of -.04 so far this season, i don't know that their absence from the Mariners roster has necessarily had any particular effect on their downturn.
