Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 9, 2019 Author Posted September 9, 2019 Does he come to speculate on why?I mean, it'd take at least two psychologists, one specializing in organizational psych, an economist, and a statistician to separate how much is horrible luck, how much is shortcomings in the organization and their deployment and philosophy, and how much is something else, but there's probably at least something in there.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted September 9, 2019 Posted September 9, 2019 I'm assuming the author takes into account that deGrom tends to pitch against the other team's ace. How many times has he gone head-to-head with Scherzer this year? That's going to have an effect in some ways, I think.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 Here's the link to BRef's 2019 NL Pitching Leaders page. Click on the "expand all leaderboards" link so that each pitching category opens to show the top 10 list instead of just the leader.https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2019-pitching-leaders.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/2019-pitching-leaders.shtmlAnyways, I think it's indisputable and beyond debate that Max Scherzer, pound for pound and rate-wise, has been the NL's best pitcher this season. But youse can check and decide for yourselves. deGrom rates higher than Scherzer according to some voters, because of his edge over Scherzer in Games Started -- 29 to 24 -- and, (it logically follows) in Innings Pitched -- 183 to 154. Scherzer's slowed down recently due to some injury issues where he's missed a few starts and, when used, has been under a strict pitch count limit, I think. But still, Scherzer's WAR is still higher than deGrom's even though Jake's pitched 20 more innings than Max.
