Should Mets have signed Cespedes a second time?

Tracky, on Twitter, uses his amazing powers of hindsight.

Andy Martino

@martinonyc

Of course. They were right to trade for him. Right to take him back in team friendly deal after that. Shouldn't have signed him the second time. In my opinion, that is.

@vasdrimalitis

Replying to @SNYtv @martinonyc

FACT: Mets don't make it to the 2015 World Series without Cespedes.

I was glad when they signed him. Hoping he still comes back strong.

Hindsight is bionic. He probably thinks they should have let Wright walk too. You know, if they hadn't signed Francisco Rodriguez, they could have used the draft pick they lost to get Mike Trout one pick before the Angels got him. Really, they should have known.

If they hadn't brought Cespedes back he would have written an article about how cheap they are.

Tracky would never write such an article. He's running interference now trying sway public opinion against signing free agents.

It's not like the Wilpons would have brought in someone else. If not Cespedes it would have been Madoff.

I don't see anything about being cheap.

The apologists will advocate for a player from time to time. Even guys like Ehalt and DiComo have talked about the benefits of adding someone like Harper.

But they do so in the context of either/or. In this article Martino talks about financial flexibility. As if this were a salary cap league.

He would never write that the Mets should expand payroll. That they should fill all the holes they have and bring in depth, and also, bring in the superstar on top of that. He would never write that the Mets are too cheap to bring him in.

And if he ever did, that would be the day I start liking him.
