Mex17 Old-Timey Member Posted January 25, 2019 Posted January 25, 2019 Now that they have the veteran loogy in the fold, the only thing that might be left is another long man for bullpen/spot starter depth. Why not Warren?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Well, they have a pair of long reliever/spot starter types in Lugo and Gsellman. Also, it's a pretty crowded pen as it is. Not only will there no room for Luis Avalán, Tyler Bashlor, Eric Hanhold, Tim Peterson, Jacob Rhame, Hector Santiago, Paul Sewald, and Drew Smith (who collectively threw 326 innings at the big league level in 2018), Rule 5 pick Kyle Dowdy will be lost if he doesn't make the team.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 Smith and Bashlor seem to me to be the kind of guys worthy of developing further.I can't think of Adam Warren without hearing Suzyn and John talk about how great he is all the time, so, no.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 The safe spots in the pen are Diaz, Familia, Lugo, Gsellman, and Wilson. Two are up for grabs. One should go to a lefty, which would be either Zamora or Avilan. The other is up for grabs. Now, you want one of that long list of guys that Edgy mentioned to step forward (or more, in the likely event that somebody gets hurt). But none of those guys really did last year, and a few of them actively got in the way. Maybe all they need is another year of experience, or maybe an established reliever with a good track record can be had on the cheap. Or possibly both. But if Warren is looking to take what he can get at this point, there is no reason not to take a look. I'd offer him $3M with a team option for $4M or a $1M buyout. If that's good enough, then great. And if not, the situation is not so urgent that I'd go above it.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted January 26, 2019 Posted January 26, 2019 He's a solid middle-relief arm who can go for multiple innings, and threw up 17 starts in 2015. He's Lugo or Gsellman, only with a more impressive track record. You're trying to win, and you're not going to spend any more money on a starter, or an offensive lineup upgrade? You don't have 7-8 guys better than Warren? Gimme Warren.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2019 Posted January 27, 2019 They signed someone else. Bye Adam
