A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I like SNAKES. Great shot, I dig how the high-fiving hands leave the frame. And it's got a smiling Nimmo in it, too (I mean, doesn't ever pic of Nimmo feature a giant grin?). I'm not sure what's going on in all that small print in the upper-left hand corner, but it doesn't detract enough for me.
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 I'm the other SNAKES vote (with Seo). I predict, however, that either of these would and should lose to the other bracket.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2018/5-02w.jpg>This one wasn't even close. SMILE HIGH scores a 15 to 2 victory over SWEEP SNAKES, which was the last remaining cover from the New York Post. This will be the first time since 2015 that the Post hasn't been represented in the finals, and the first-ever appearance in the final round for Newsday.SMILE HIGH will go on to face MIDNIGHT BADNESS of the Daily News in the final round, which will begin tomorrow. Will Newsday make its first trip to Stockholm? Or will the Daily News win the Tabloid Cover Derby for the fourth time in four years? The excitement is electric. The tension is palpable.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2019 Posted January 22, 2019 Is there any arguing between Marissa and Shelby as to who gets to hold up the winning cover and are the winning covers equally distributed between the two?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 They're assigned their covers before the voting begins. (I don't know if you've been seeing the versions that have been appearing on the CPF Facebook page at the start of each poll. See below.) I think Nate Silver has done an analysis regarding the relationship between our spokesmodels and the winning covers. I'll have to see if I can find a link.Oh, and Marissa and Shelby are always arguing about something.http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2018/5-02.jpg>
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 22, 2019 Author Posted January 22, 2019 You had me curious, so I counted! Shelby has held up ten winning covers, and Marissa has had eight. And Bob has had the winning cover both times he filled in!
