Guest 41Forever Guests Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 https://www.freep.com/story/money/business/columnists/carol-cain/2018/10/20/fred-wilpon-university-michigan/1662651002/Nice story from my friend Carol about Fred’s time at U of M and how he is helping first-generation students with scholarships. “Judy and I believe to break the cycle of poverty, you need an education,†he said. “I had an outstanding education which helped me on my way. We’re hellbent on helping to educate as many other young people as we can.â€
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 Nice. If only he cared as much about the Mets as he does about his college. F him and his son (the 3rd Trump son).

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 I know, I know...Diplomacy > F-bombs, I suppose.I just don't get the trying to push-the-envelope thing sometimes.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 I guess I didn't think this was pushing the envelope.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 What a great little article about Fred giving back. Nothing better than someone who values education. Thanks for sharing. For anyone who can't get enough of stories like this, here is a nice little article about Frank McCourt donating $100 million to Georgetown University that I am sharing for reasons completely devoid of any ulterior agenda. https://www.georgetown.edu/content/mccourt-school-press-release.htmlBoy these baseball owners really value education huh?But it's not just owners!Check out the benevolent Roger Clemens giving to the University of Texas!https://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/college_sports/longhorns/article/Roger-Clemens-donates-1-million-to-help-Texas-12861587.phpAnd who can forget Pete Rose, doing his Charlie Hustle for military vets.https://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/college_sports/longhorns/article/Roger-Clemens-donates-1-million-to-help-Texas-12861587.phpRound of applause for everyone. Good stuff gentlemen. Good stuff. You left out the Waldbuhne, built in Berlin at the request of Josef Goebbels to hold classical music concerts. In Mario Puzo's The Godfather book, Don Corleone observes how easy it is to be a philanthropist after you've stolen millikns of everybody else's money. And those heaping praise for these scumbags acts of generosity are the biggest suckers. (Corleone's words, through Puzo, not mine)But good for Fred who benefited immeasurably from knowingly investing in what was a ponzi scheme, leveraging a fraudulent balance sheet inflated by imaginary profits from Madoff into full ownership of what is now a multi billion dollar baseball team and then giving back a coupl'a pennies to the wounded warriors.
